Hey.
I’ve been mired in stress the past several weeks and I come here to read news more in line with my values even though I still vet it. Thanks for that @bsky.app

My work held a food drive today for our local food bank and the response was amazing. If you build it they (us) will come. The generosity of strangers.

This is next level authoritarianism.👇

"Following the suspension of two career prosecutors, the U.S. Department of Justice quietly revised a sentencing memo in a high-profile case — removing all references to the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, and President Donald Trump’s social media post."

HAPPENING NOW: Portland Police Commander Franz Schoening testifies that federal officers on Oct. 18 barraged protesters with crowd control munitions — not because of any violence but because another federal officer accidentally shot tear gas onto the roof of the ICE facility.

I feel for this young man and his generation. I won’t live long enough to see this damage undone but they (and my son) will be the ones dealing with the repercussions.
Mockler: I’m 23 years old, and Gen Zers have spent all of our formative years living in a political system that’s purely dysfunctional. People in my generation see the president posting memes online rather than actually negotiating with the other side.

If SNAP benefits vanished tomorrow, feeding 42 million Americans for a month would cost about $7.8 billion. That’s less than 1% of the combined net worth of the three richest men in the U.S. A reminder of how obscene inequality has become and how easily hunger could be solved if we chose to.

It feels like taxpayers are footing the bill for a dying tyrant’s wish list. A ballroom. A triumphal arch. A war in Venezuela. He’s got people lobbying for him to get a Nobel Prize for the COVID vaccines.

No bequest for the American people in his dying days, though. We’re not important to him.

I've saved her some time.

Entering “grasp the nettle” into my conversations now.
"The government needs to grasp the nettle and go where few politicians dare."

Royal historian Tessa Dunlop speaks about the government's role in future-proofing the monarchy.

For kids who ride school buses from rural area sometimes their bus rides can be an hour long. DST is so hard for them.
DST is why most Americans wake by alarm in darkness. Permanent Standard Time would let us sleep longer and awaken naturally to sunlight, for health!

For the rest of my life, I will call this the Epstein wing. It rolls easily off the tongue.
The Epstein files stay hidden, but the Epstein Ballroom will be a prominent display.

So Argentina gets a $40 billion bailout from our tax dollars but devastated small towns here at home — nothing.

I applaud this and mourn that in the U.S., the language of faith is still used to justify denying women and children their fundamental human rights. 👇

Food insecurity is ALWAYS a political choice. Famine is ALWAYS manmade. People go hungry because of other people’s decisions. We have more than enough food for everyone, and enormous amounts of it are wasted—literally thrown in the garbage—on purpose.

This is a beautiful new locker room at St Pius in Kansas City. They are a private religious school that accepts taxpayer vouchers for partial tuition.

Anyway, the kids at the public school down the road from me learn to run track when they go to track meets — they don’t have a track of their own.
