@bilih.bsky.social another interesting chat. Lidocaine is now more dangerous than bupivacaine (link in show notes) the way you speak and your body language has profound effects on patient communication (if you haven’t worked that out yet time for some education!)

From a humanist perspective, we can't fault this sage logic.

Just to emphasise this…
The chance of having an allergic reaction to a neuromuscular blocking drug is:
• suxamethonium: ~1 in 1500 people
• rocuronium: ~1 in 3300 people
• atracurium: ~1 in 15,000 people

Women were up to eight times more likely to have a reaction than men.

And yet we (and I include me) use a lot of rocuronium… #ansky
• There is a significant difference between the rates of peri-operative hypersensitivity reactions with rocuronium and suxamethonium vs. atracurium.

• Females may be higher risk than males of reacting to neuromuscular blocking drugs.

The ultimate red herring. Gave me a decisional dilemma once…
Sustained, exhaled carbon dioxide by waveform capnography is an essential component of tracheal intubation.

But what if there is bronchospasm?

Tracheal intubation can be confirmed using flexible bronchoscopy.

I see this but while they’re still transporting bunker oil in massive ships I find it a bit hard to feel guilty about a bit of sevo every now and then (acknowledging that small differences add up yes, yes)
TIVA vs sevoflurane

Interested in the contributions of the drugs, single use items, energy consumption and sevoflurane to the total carbon footprint at 0 min, 30 min, 60 min and 360 min?
