Super excited to announce that my work with @joefresna.bsky.social and @lostintheswarm.bsky.social has just been published in the Swarm Intelligence journal. We show how a swarm of minimalistic robots can self-localize and construct a global coordinate system.

I'm so looking forward to it! This will be a fantastic event. Join us in Venice next year, it will be fun!
Excited to share: The inaugural Alma Dal Co School on Collective Behavior is coming to Venice (Sep 29-Oct 4, 2025). This unique school honors Alma (1989-2022), whose brilliant work bridging physics and microbiology revealed how metabolic interactions structure microbial communities. 1/12

Serious paper about a silly day:

Each week, we share research that tickled our brains at our #LightningJournalClub. Fascinating, intriguing, even outright infuriating - these papers got us buzzing. This is the Jan. 29, 2024 edition!

The #blob has awaken!

The dried "snot" on the left spent 3 years in the drawer. A little bit of humidity and food turned it into the sprawling yellow goo on the right :-)

The "Remote - Tunnels" extension in #vscode might be the feature that will make me move all my cross-platform #rstats development away from RStudio and toward Visual Studio Code. This thing works brilliantly (so far) and is so much easier to set up than a RStudio Server. Thoughts?

ROpenCVLite 4.90.0 is now available on CRAN. It brings the latest release of OpenCV (4.9.0) and more robustness to the installation process on Windows. However, please note that this update deprecates support for R < 4.0

So far, Bluesky feels like Mastodon (b/c decentralized) and Reddit (b/c subreddit-like feeds) had a baby and it’s just learning to walk. I think I’ll stick around for a while, see if it learns to run now.

Hello #HiSciSky! I'm Simon. I study why and how dumb little things (like ants) get smarter together (#CollectiveIntelligence) & how and why big smart things (like humans) get dumber together (#CollectiveStupidity). Administrative work stresses me out. Coding with #rstats & #julialang relaxes me.
