Long Journeys
@longjourneys.bsky.social
Halfway through my expected lifespan as a human. I enjoy comics, art, philosophy, history, programming, nature, and animals.
I had a dream last night that @markhamillofficial.bsky.social was teaching me how to play cards. George Lucas was there too, nodding along.
For my forever Space Sis: 🎂

Happy Carrie Fisher's birthday

I haven't watched broadcast TV in years.
Nexstar made a deal to acquire broadcast conglomerate Tegna in a $6.2 billion deal, which will require government approval.

They’re continuing to refuse to air Kimmel.

I don't know whether I should be proud or embarrassed, but I just ate a whole box of Life cereal

Age yourself with a movie you saw in theaters.

Ooh I kinda wanna play with them... like the 9 year old me reawakened when I saw this
There have been requests for a better look at the ceiling of my studio. Photos do not do it justice, so here is a video that is a little bit better. Lock S foils in attack position. #starwars #hasbro #kenner #rebelfleet

It's depressing that there is so much AI generated slop "art" for sale on Amazon and Etsy

I buy physical books, too. Who knows what could happen if Jeff Bezos decided he didn't like certain books and took them off of Kindle?
Actual fascists are working overtime to suppress & rewrite US history. Here’s my past 13 years’ worth of nonfiction comics work.

Speak up to protect access to books centering accurate history, voices & experiences of those whose existences have historically been suppressed, erased & dehumanized.

This is funny because I'm not a football guy and I forgot today was even the super bowl until my brother texted me to invite me over to watch. And I never heard about Trumps special day of whatchamacallit
Trump declared today, “Gulf of America Day,” and called the announcement “even bigger than the Super Bowl” and part of “making America great again.”

Trump can’t stand that the Super Bowl is getting more attention than him.

Please don't buy things on Amazon anymore.

The only one here I really use is Amazon, and much of their business is AWS, which unfortunately runs a lot of the Internet.

George Lucas got a lot of his ideas from WWII. It really is a universal and timeless theme though.
As a kid, I always wondered why I was so obsessed Star Wars. I always wondered why it was so important.

As an adult, I get it now. Star Wars at its core is a story about fighting authoritarianism.

I need to start differentiating between when I'm eating because I'm hungry vs eating because I'm bored/depressed/anxious

I had a really profound dream involving a beaver last night. So I woke up and looked up the etymology of the word "beaver," expecting it to be something deep and meaningful. Nope, it just means "brown"

I read a book on Feynman a few years ago. Kinda want to find it and read it again.

Mine was "Dave", a film about an actor who pretends to be the president when the real president has a stroke.

Not sure how to take that to be honest.
My fave thing about this is discovering I'm not the oldest user on this site :)

My problem is that I'm such a glutton that leftovers are a rarity
Do people know that eating leftovers is fine and normal and even good?!

Right? I've got like 4 appliances now that want to connect to the internet.
I don't want my fridge to have a camera or Wi-Fi. I don't want my dishwasher to be smart. I don't want my washing machine to text me.

In fact, I kinda miss knobs and dials and knowing big appliances would last 20 years and could still be repaired.
