The end of the internal combustion engine?

Sales of petrol and diesel cars in China peaked in 2017 and are now falling rapidly.

The shift to electric and low-carbon transport is well underway—and EV sales are rising fast.

Truly remarkable: Poland used to be a climate laggard.

Today, wind and solar are increasingly replacing coal in the Polish electricity mix with almost 30% of all electricity generated to date this year from wind and solar.

In 2000 coal provided 95% of Polish electricity.

Today it is at 51%.

Since 2013, five tropical cyclones would have been category 6 - if the traditional hurricane scale didn’t stop at 5.
Unlike, say, the Richter earthquake scale and the Celsius scale.

The hypothetical new label could go to any tropical cyclone with sustained winds of at least 192 mph — an intensity that five storms have surpassed since 2013, the scientists said.

The cost of generating electricity from domestic coal in Türkiye varies between $32 and $86/MWh depending on plant efficiency and coal quality.

By comparison, new solar plants generate electricity at $43/MWh – 52% cheaper than new coal.

In just six months, China added 256 gigawatts (GW) of new #solar capacity — more than the entire solar infrastructure ever built by the United States. That’s enough clean energy to power over 40 million homes, marking the fastest renewable expansion in human history.

The underlying fundamental economics have changed dramatically: solar is now so cheap that businesses and households all around the world install it often without subsidies. Throw in batteries and the business case just keeps improving.
