I never connected the dots between the choice not to teach a generation how to read for ideological reasons and people just responding to words that are absolutely not in a communication.
my patience has increased but I will say, it is ok to have trouble reading, it is not ok to scream at people for things you imagined they said because you can't read what they actually said

It's because a bunch of liberal education departments that we trusted backed faulty research in order to sell reading curriculums that were based on nonsense. And you should make sure your local school district isn't still using it, especially if you live in a blue state where it was most popular.
