I just realized the free Roku live tv has an entire channel devoted to gardening with Monty Don! I can watch marathons of cozy English gardening shows whenever I want! This is delightful

The organized censorship movement is after books, yes, but also after the institutions that share them: libraries. Sowing doubt and fear about highly trusted public institutions, gutting them of resources (a bipartisan project, we have to be honest about that), and then the great dismantling.

Some burnout is caused by structural problems but I’m well on my way there on my own with my people pleasing tendencies. Why do I think I can do ALL the things in February? FEBRUARY?

The whiplash of waking up to an ice storm with a bunch of downed tree branches to then walking home in almost 60 degree weather (& really seeing all the tree damage) is almost too much with the whiplash & confusion of everything else happening atm

1. Sabotage public institutions.

2. Claim they don’t work efficiently.

3. Eliminate them.

That’s the playbook.

Ok #booksky, let’s talk.

I just listened to Elizabeth Gilbert's "Big Magic" and in it she talks about an encounter with an elk she had (while drunk! terrifying!) and this was her main takeaway and how she tried to capture this feeling of being in the presence of an overwhelming divine in her story "Elk Talk"
Moose are proof that the old gods still walk among us. That’s about as… comforting a thought about them that I can muster. 😩 #MooseProof
SAEED I went to a natural history museum once with a glass case of taxidermy animals and there was the head of a moose - just the head - and it was next to a whole ass polar bear, and the bear and the moose head were horrifyingly close to the same exact size

One of the ways I help keep grounded is by gardening and then sometimes writing about it. Today I wrote about making wreaths for the Winter Solstice from trimmings from our garden (& a friend's). Would love if you wanted to read it here! bitofearth.substack.com/p/on-yard-wr...

Well, hi there! As I reflect on my year, I'm realizing I'm pretty burnt out. So I figured, why not get on another social site? But really, since twitter, I haven't done a great job at engaging outside my pow & want that external perspective, so here I am! Excited to (re)connect w/library folks
