I cannot wrap my head around the government's determination to "clamp down" on immigration, aside from all the moral reasons to be pro-immigration, but the government has a huge agenda on growth and skills. How on earth do you expect to do that without international labour and skills to support it??

#UKHE Please encourage disabled students at your institutions to complete the DSUK annual survey. It is a vital tool in helping to shape disability support in HE, as well as providing invaluable feedback on current issues facing disabled students. It has real impact!
We are excited to share the Annual Disabled Student Survey 2025. Designed by disabled students for disabled students, the survey aims to amplify your voice and improve accessibility in UK Higher education.

“We could get migration down to zero by the time of the next election” - no you couldn’t and also why would you want to? We are not demons and ghouls, we are humans; but dehumanisation like this is why it feels like Europe is only about five years away from something unimaginably terrible.

I think the thing I loathe the most about these utterly fake cosplayer conservative Blue Labour types is that they seem to have so little recognition or appreciation for the value of some things our modern economy *does* have, just because they're sniffy about the cultural vibe of them sometimes

Yes, a lot of it is rubbish systems and a lack of training, but those things are fixable, with some investment and willing. But the biggest problem is still attitude, and that requires very firm and visible leadership. We can't do it all from our little corner.

It's so hard and demoralising to read reports like this from inside Disability Services, knowing that we run ourselves into the ground trying to make things right, only to have our recommendations summarily ignored.

Really like that in UUK's new report on what it means to regulate in the student interest it begins by saying there is no single student interest. It is varied, complex and defined by students' individual circumstances and experiences.

Officially used way less exclamation points over the last few weeks. Am not free from the shackles of using !s whenever I ask for anything. But now only using them every other email... so that's something. Taking this as a win for modern day feminism and all that.
Current new years resolution is to attempt to wean myself off of using exclamation points in emails. Particularly when I am asking someone for something. Catch me repeating "using a full stop is not rude" to myself 10 times in the mirror every morning come jan.

A sign I should wear my pits and perverts t shirt tomorrow
40 years ago:
Pits and Perverts was a fundraiser for Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners.
The Bronski Beat gig raised £5000.
It helped build relationships between Unions and #LGBTQ communities, united by the common enemy of Thatcher’s Government, leading to Union support for pro-gay policies.
