This is what I do! Square brackets and all. Use placeholders! Move on and come back! It’s great!!
Stuck in a scene? Do what the pros do: use brackets. Write what the story beat is:

Then just keep writing what happens after. Maintaining momentum is key to getting the most words on the page. Meanwhile solutions often present themselves later.

I did a small reread of Setting Sun’s penultimate chapter—the one I wrote in the worst time of my life—and in hindsight it is crushingly obvious how badly I needed to set one (1) boundary with my parents. And also how depressed my job was making me.
