Hello, Blue Sky! While we'll still be posting about the same topics as X -- the incredible work our community does, the many priorities of our office, current events, and news you can use -- I am excited to see the new connections that Blue Sky will bring us.

Let's get to work, LA County!
Lesson #1: Unity is everything.

It’s been 7 months since the January wildfires, and I sat down with @katecagle.bsky.social to reflect on what we’ve learned—and how we’re putting those lessons into action as we rebuild.

Too many Angelenos die in heat waves — but no more!
Thanks to @hildasolis.bsky.social @lindseyphorvath.bsky.social & @lacountybos.bsky.social for passing a new ordinance requiring landlords to keep units at 82°F or below in summer. Grateful to all the advocates who made this happen! 🌡️🏘️

We know it’s hot, and it’s only getting hotter —that’s why we’re establishing a maximum indoor temperature for tenants. Great to speak with SAJE this morning.

The Board votes next week—join us Tuesday, August 5th to show your support for tenant heat protections!

@agrobbonta.oag.ca.gov's push for receivership is another reminder of how deeply broken our juvenile probation facility operations have become.

For a receivership to have a chance at success, the State must take on the challenge LA County has faced for decades—full statement: bit.ly/44JdRCv

Implementing Measure G revealed a major omission in our Charter, but make no mistake: Measure J and Measure G are the will of the voters, and we are committed to implementing both.

Here in LA County, we celebrate and protect our LGBTQ+ community.

That is why I am bringing forward a motion now with @lindseyphorvath.bsky.social for LA County to look at ways that we can keep the connection between 988 and LGBTQ+ crisis counseling.

We're acting to save the LGBT+ hotline that the Trump admin is trying to cut.

We know better than this cruelty: queer youth are disproportionately impacted by mental illness & suicide — dedicated resources are life-saving and common sense. Grateful to @supjanicehahn.bsky.social for this motion.

Our communities are still recovering — and businesses are still trying to rip them off. LA County is stepping in.

Our motion, passed today, authorizes LA County to impose meaningful penalties, require restitution, and ensure businesses play by the rules.

JUST IN: the Board unanimously voted to support Sen. Menjivar’s SB357 that will allow LA County’s DYD to support our young people in our care.

LA County is on the same page and investing in what actually works—compassion, care, and real opportunities for our young people. 🤝
