Nancy Meyers is looking back at her decades of collaborations with Diane Keaton and noting that the “past 48 hours have not been easy” since the actress died:

"I always felt she really got me so writing for her made me better because I felt so secure in her hands." More here: bit.ly/4obAiae

it is really important for news outlets to be clear (unlike the nyt here) that Kimmel was suspended not because of some grassroots backlash but because ABC caved to threats from the head of the FCC
ABC announced that it was pulling Jimmy Kimmel’s late night show “indefinitely” after his comments about Charlie Kirk’s death. nyti.ms/46vgZl3

Chuck continues to be useless
Chuck Schumer just told CNN, in the wake of Kimmel’s suspension, that “we are not that country.”

Alas we are, now. Maybe not forever. But now.

I've long since abandoned any real hope of billionaires seriously funding a real progressive media outlet or platform but the other way you could launch such a thing is with some charismatic talent with pre-existing audience and (presumably) the financial independence to take risks. Just fwiw.

Not really an overstatement to say that the test of a free society is whether or not comedians can make fun of the country's leader on TV without repurcussions.

Update: It's not just Nexstar

“Jimmy Kimmel Live will be preempted indefinitely” - per an ABC spokesperson
This is...something

Nexstar, one of largest owners of TV stations in the country, is pre-empting JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE "for the foreseeable future":

"Nexstar strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming."

Robert Redford was my favorite, it’s hard to process that he is gone. His performances made more movies beloved to me than anyone else, I’d take The Sting over any other film for flawless perfection. We don’t expect famous people to also be good people but he was. He belongs to the ages
