Transfemme Bog Witch 🌸 She/her 🌿 Becoming one with the moss

Pride Month approaches. I’m working on yarn spun from wool dyed in the color ways of the lesbian, transgender, and asexual flags. First one down and I’m in love with the gradient.

Gathering Golden Oysters on my morning dog walk still feels weird. #foraging #fungi #mushrooms

I am a birdwatcher in the sense of “There is a bird over there and it makes me happy to watch it for a minute.”

Labor of love in woolen form. I bought 8 lbs of raw fleece from a local farmer in the winter and have been painstakingly processing it and learning to turn it into acceptable yarn. Having lots of fun though, and building muscles from carding so much. #handspun #wool #fiberarts #handspunyarn

From left to right, I used acorns, Lily of the valley (don’t recommend bc toxicity), and horsetails to dye these skeins of yarn.

I tucked a couple jars of acorn dyebath I prepared in late fall into the fridge and now that I’ve got white yarn to dye, I’ve been wanting to see what it would do. I used alum and iron mordants for this. #naturedyeing #handspun #queercrafting

I picked up spinning in the fall bc I wanted an easier fiber to dye than cotton for using natural dyes. I spun this on my machine and dyed it with foraged Forsythia flowers I gathered from a nearby abandoned property. #handspun #naturaldyes #foraging #botanicals

I finished this rainbow dyed skin in the wee hours of the morning. Turns out I can ply and sleep at the same time 😂. As a spinner, I’m proud of a 300 yard skein. As a novice crocheted, I can’t yet imagine what this could create.

The last skein I spun on my library loaner electric spinner before having to return it. I was able to borrow a traditional wheel as well, but am suffering major pain flare ups after using it so that puts a pin in using a treadle wheel.

Finished this dyed Cormo skein last night and started carding and spinning Border Leicester today!

Spinning feels like a very natural activity for my hands, but there’s so much that goes into making yarn from a pile of dirty, stinky, greasy wool. I’m still working out the best way for me to wash wool while not straining my back injuries, and still getting enough done. #wool #fiberarts

Woolllll. 👀 this is a Border Leicester fleece that I picked up at a local fiber fair because the raw fleeces I’ve been working with have so much VM(vegetable matter) and are not energy efficient for me to process. Look at these curls! #handspinning #spinner #spinning #fiberarts #rawfleece

A spinner I met this past weekend told me I was a natural, and it made me glow a little. I put some serious hours into spinning 4 oz of wool into this colorful skein of yarn that I made as a challenge to myself to spin a thinner weight. ~370 yards of hand-dyed Polwarth

Finished washing and measuring this skein of Zwartbles wool. It’s a breed a content creator I follow has sung praises over and I can see why. It’s not scratchy, but it’s springy and warm and was a really nice spin. #handspinning #queercrafter

My car broke down this month on top of everything else going on. I’m spinning 4-8 ounces of fiber a day so I can have things to sell in my shop bc I can spin yarn even when my body won’t let me leave the bed. Any support is appreciated! #transgender #mutualaid

I’m a fan. There’s multiple colors of silk mixed in so it looks more like rainbow frosting and less like a candy cane. Fuck the orange turd. Protect trans kids.

I launched my Etsy shop this week, ‘Spinning Locks’, which means I needed something to put in it besides the Jacobs wool yarn. This colorway was called Luna Moth on almost 8 ounces of Superfine Merino. It feels so nice against my skin 🫠 #handspun #handspinning

Gosh I love gardens. Spent some time at the recently reopened Anna Whitcombs Conservatory on Belle Isle and thoroughly enjoyed it.

So long as I’m spinning I’m not doom scrolling.

I’ve been washing Jacobs fleece I acquired locally and spinning it. I don’t hate it, but my back does. Definitely scoping out affordable wool that’s processed to give my body a rest. #handspinning #queercrafter
