Great story in this issue @nature.com. Shows that the regulatory region controlling digit devt in vertebrates was not copy-pasted directly from fin development. So, the "fin-to-limb transition" in vertebrate evolution isn't as clear cut as originally thought.🧪👏👇 (lovely summary btw).

Important summary from @plosbiology.org on their policy for the ethical and responsible use of AI in manuscripts. Essentially, use it to support you as an author or reviewer. But don't use it to generate or replace your ideas, interpretations, or opinions. They must come from you.

EU-LIFE Science Vision Talk Contest 2025
The first EU-LIFE Science Vision Talk Contest was hosted by CEITEC in Brno, Czech Republic, on 22 May 2025. It was aimed at bringing together scientists for a bold and engaging science communication competition. 18 researchers representing 15 EU-LIFE institutes presented their research in a 4-minute performance in different creative formats that included rapping, dancing, dramatising and other innovative communication techniques. One of our hugely experienced editors and writers, @sfmatheson.bsky.social, former EIC of Cell Reports, has been writing #Snippets to summarise an interesting new paper as well as to highlight good scientific writing.
I'm an extrovert, and I can be a bit too loud, and yet either in spite of that or because of it... I love to write and to read. So I've been doing these Snippets at Life Science Editors (@lifescienceeditors.bsky.social), shooting for 1-2 a week, where we enthuse about a recent paper.
