Also I don't want people to read this as me saying that games shouldn't tackle *violence* as a theme. Obviously if you've played either of our games (especially Slay the Princess) you'll know we don't shy from it.

But combat mechanics soften your ability to authentically explore that theme.

I'm currently working on The Lykos Infection, an interactive fiction game where you play as an amnesiac trying to remember a parasitic encounter that left you with fits of rage and a strange connection to the moon. Hopeful release date is early Jan to mid Feb.

The sky is faint with wisps of clouds drifting above, and the sun's heat hasn't fully hit- it's early morning. A long beige building lined with restaurant signs is on one side of you, and an almost empty parking lot is close by. It's a small plaza. Do you have business here? . . . Trash that you needed to throw away? You don't remember ever being here before. Where should you be instead? Your gut twists with anxiety. You have no idea where to go, what to do, or even who you are. The only thing you're certain of is a feeling of emptiness. Hands darting around in panic, you pat your pockets.
