If you’re still buying Starbucks coffee (ESPECIALLY here in Seattle where there are a million independent roasters and coffeehouses that have tastier drinks anyway) you’re a scab. It’s that simple.

Told my boss that my intention is to “ooze into the new year” (we had a very busy November.) She responded, “yeahhh I don’t intend to win any productivity awards this month.” So anyway, happy Bare Minimum Season to all who celebrate.

Friendly reminder that dishwashers made after 1995 or so are so water and energy efficient that even if you ran them twice fully loaded it would still use less water than handwashing the same load.

So many "green" things feel like sacrifices. Dishwashers are not one of them.

Genuine question: how the heck do I find more hr friends on here? If I try to search "human resources" it's just the same old tired "HR isn't your friend" takes. I know we're not all like that, so where are we?

Maybe important to note it was the disruption in air travel that Democrats couldn't stand and not, you know, 40+ million people not knowing where their next meal was coming from.

WOW. 81% of women 18-29 voted for Mamdani, 80% for Sherril, and 78% for Spanberger.

Gen Z women aren't playing around.

Zohran has now gotten more votes, in New York City alone, than 49 members of the U.S. Senate did when they get elected; It's likely that, when the final tally is complete, he'll have gotten more votes than half of all Senators currently in office. *This* is what power and purpose looks like.

Me: beds are for sleeping

Gizmo, the hell gremlin in charge of technology: relying on the normal infrastructure of bed ARE WE?! Ahahahahhaa
The AWS outage bricked people's $2,700 smartbeds, leaving them in a reclining position or with the heat up. People were unable to use them, basically. A GitHub repo exists that lets people operate their beds without reliance on the normal infrastructure

The AWS Outage Bricked People’s $2,700 Smartbeds
When Amazon Web Services went offline, people lost control of their cloud-connected smart beds, getting stuck in reclined positions or roasting with the heat turned all the way up.

I am once again urging the tech workers of America to form a union
The grind culture that birthed many Big Tech companies from Google to Amazon is back.

As the AI race heats up, startups are promoting hardcore cultures like “996,” or working 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., six days a week.
Why these companies insist on a 72-hour work week
Start-ups are promoting hardcore cultures such as “996,” meaning working from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. six days a week, as they race to compete in AI.

it's ok to be a nimby about prisons
“My NIMBY stance was for my family property in the beginning. Now it’s for my whole state. I say no, we don’t want a prison. We don’t want this mega prison in this state,” says a resident of Franklin County, Arkansas.
The Prison Next Door
How Arkansas’ secretive plan for a new state lockup angered people in a deep red corner of rural America—and changed how some see incarceration.
