Interesting to see how you all keep jousting from two not mutually exclusive juxtapositions.

Dus.

Listening to people who confuse arming and aiding a country fighting for it’s very existence with warmongering, I think quite a lot about Patrick Henry.

Arm Ukraine or strengthen ourselves?

Disagree or get along?

Find many asymmetries: conservatives (vs liberals) nastier online.

Yes it was fun while it lasted but it is definitely almost over. For tracking people’s new publications it is still more effective than this site though. Wish people were more active posting their pubs here, too.

HUMBLEBRAG: exactly four years ago today I held my inaugural lecture as professor at Maastricht University. Today I received word that the university has appointed me permanently. Could not be more proud!

Hey Stata users, I just published a nicer version of my guide for graphing regression results in Medium’s “Stata Gallery”.

The article includes all the code directly in the article—simply copy & paste! 😁

Hope it is useful for you!

Dank!

I had the same gut reaction. Wonder how much social media plays a role in this.

For the past two days the epidemiologists and virologists in my mentions have been frantically chattering about an outbreak of a weird type of pneumonia in China.

Watching this with some concern.

5) there is reason to assume that this AI revolution is qualitatively different from previous revolutions, in the sense that machines can substitute humans in much more and more diverse job tasks. This means that the “alarmists” may very well be right. But also that governments can take action.

4) countries that face mass technological unemployment may want to consider rethinking their social welfare schemes. We found that participation or basic income type systems are about as effective as activating systems, but produce better outcomes for individuals.

3) Adult learning is essential: people need to be able to retrain, and reskill or upskill. But it is develishly difficult to design an effective system, and in most countries the systems are not yet very effective.
