We are Letters for Liberation, and while we're new to Bluesky, the work we're doing is not. Our mission is to spark and support meaningful connections between people inside and outside prison in a way that transforms us all, rooted in our abolitionist belief that no one is disposable.
Interested in expanding your community? We hold regular orientations to onboard new pen pals, so we can match more people inside and outside the prison system to connect through letter-writing. No registration required — check out our website (linked below) for the details on how to join the call!

Did you know? Many prisons provide tablets for people to access ebooks, podcasts, movies, etc. But content is often limited & comes with a price.

Our most recent newsletter (🔗⤵️) goes into more detail on the use of tablets in U.S. prisons. Ask if your pen pal has experience with this type of tech.

Incarceration is an unhealthy system built to isolate, not to reform. We support the humanity and human rights of all people in prison.
Even corrections officers have described how the Cuyahoga County Jail’s conditions impact their physical and mental health.

“Over the years, many officers said they have developed breathing problems from the air quality,” says Adam Chaloupka of the Ohio Patrolmen's Benevolent Association.
Months Without Sunshine: The Unbearable Darkness of Jail
Jails in St. Louis, Cleveland and Jackson, Mississippi, don’t provide direct access to sunlight and fresh air – even when their own policies require it.

Too often, folks on the outside forget that the people in prison are just that: people.

The work of abolition defies the prison industrial complex and demands our community members are treated with dignity and humanity.

Becoming ever more common in Missouri, heat emergencies create dangerous conditions inside prisons with limited or no air conditioning.

Untreated heat exhaustion and heatstroke can lead to organ failure, permanent neurological damage, and even death.
These Missouri Prisons Get ‘Brutally Hot.’ In Solitary, It’s Even Worse.
A recent class action lawsuit from the MacArthur Justice Center sheds light on how extreme heat creates life-threatening conditions for those in solitary confinement.

"The Alabama Solution" is an essential new documentary that dives deep into the realities of Alabama's #prison system. These horrors are not unique to one state in our nation's 50.

As part of the path toward #abolition, it falls on us to demand transparency, humanity, and accountability.
