One of the things I love about The Future: finding and downloading half a gig worth of samples of a Barbie toy piano someone found by the side of the road.

Really good talk on digital privacy. It's mostly accessible to anyone, but in the interest of time there's a lot of brevity in some places, but he at least provides pointers so you can pick up the ball. www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0If...

Just recently I was thinking how much the rust community's complacency reminds me of the "macs can't get viruses" folks back in the day. And yeah, those chickens have really come home to roost (rüst?) this past week, haven't they?

Holy shit. This is the software (or very very very very close to the software) I've been wanting for projects for literally more than a quarter century. I FINALLY FOUND IT. And totally by accident. It's been around since 2006; I wish I had known that!
Last night's academic music software didn't quite pan out, but I'm about to fall down a rabbit hole with this other one...

I can't sleep so here's another tech support story involving my dad. Circa 2005 I flew out to wire up my parents' business to upgrade them from dialup to ethernet, router, etc.

In between running cable and all, my dad was like, "hey, can you look at the computer in my office? It's really slow." 1/

OMG this perfectly captures what I've been thinking and predicting about music for 30 years, a lot of what I've been listening to and experimenting with, why I got back into music, where my musical focus and direction is, and why I think so many "music these days" critiques are fundamentally flawed.

New water enhancer organizer design finished printing. Here's the old one and new one side by side. I'm slowly getting better at bringing some vague sense of aesthetics into my designs.

It's fascinating how many of my music projects over the years hit an "I need to download experimental software from some university in order to proceed" point.

So many of my ideas across so many of my hobbies require me to invest significant time just to ascertain whether the idea is even viable in the first place.

I've decided to change out the effects I'm going for completely and go more analog/physical world, e.g. running vocals through a speaker at one end of a shop vac hose with a mic at the other. I blended multiple things like that to get really eerie/haunting effects on a project way back.
Tfw you learn that reason you can't find plugins for the sort of audio mangling you want for a track is those sounds are considered 20 years dated.

To be fair, I don't want to employ the same aesthetic as back in the day, but still...

I'm also really disappoint with modern audio mangling options.

I was just thinking about the tech support calls I'd get from my dad back in the day and how I'm so glad I don't get those anymore. This is literally how one of them went

Voicemail: Len. Call me as soon as you get this. My computer keeps crashing
...
Me: Hey, so you're having a computer problem?

I was watching a video earlier about how the enshittification of streaming services has hilariously made piracy popular again and now I kinda want to start torrenting All The Movies And TV just to be a chaos gremlin*.

I wanted to go hog wild with the new asymmetric fillet feature in the latest Fusion 360 update, so I redid the water enhancer holder I made earlier in the year. I've been wanting to make it less blocky.

Listening to Joe's Garage, as it often does, got me wondering what the OG Telefunken U47s are going for these days. I actually looked it up this time and the answer appears to be around $10k.

This is floor robot company doing a fridge usage survey, but now I want to write a short story about a fridge.

"When Amana Whirlpool sauntered into my PI office that night I could tell immediately she was a frigid dame, and not just because she was a freezer stacked on top of a refrigerator..."

The one I'm looking at now has reverb models like Concert Hall, Cathedral, Cave, Shimmer, ... all pretty standard reverb stuff. And then there's Orc Bakery. I know I've been out of the game for more than a decade, but I'm pretty sure that's not a standard algorithmic or convolutional reverb.
"This reverb plugin is great for ambient...."

"This plugin's realistic room sounds..."

"This plugin gives your music the sound of Cold War surveillance. With lush reverbs accurately captured from the infamous Berlin surveillance tower, this plugin is perfect for adding atmosphere to your tracks."
