Being optimistic in these times is a challenge, but if you are a #librarian working in #healthsciences or #medlibs and want to either volunteer to be a promotion letter writer OR find librarians to do this for you, please take a look at this project: osf.io/e7mb2/

Please share widely :)
Academic Health Sciences and Medical Librarian Volunteer Letter Writers List

NEW: A former Microsoft AI engineer says the company's "AI for sustainability" claims are BS, a distraction from their hyper-polluting AI contracts with oil companies.

“From what I saw," he said, "I believe that finding and extracting more oil is one of the biggest use cases of AI today."
He helped Microsoft build AI to help the climate. Then Microsoft sold it to Big Oil.
A former Microsoft project manager reveals how the tech giant is using AI to help Big Oil drill—and how he and his partner are now pushing for change.

A a health literacy focused #medlib, the news about MedlinePlus AND outreach is devastating.

BUT the mention of cuts to NCBI within that 40% reduction should chill everyone who does biomedical research. They maintain PubMed as well as Entrez, gene, protein, nucleotide, BLAST, PubChem...
Sharing this update provided to me directly about the state of NLM and the future of NNLM, traveling exhibits, and, somehow, MedlinePlus.

I am so worried for friends and colleagues, and I'm stuck on that, but it is hard to not want to scream WTF about a MedlinePlus with no new material.

Sigh, AI. At least when I ran the prompt in OpenEvidence it did MUCH better...?
Copilot Research, tell me about therapies for children with gender dysphoria.

then checkout the Cass report.

#medlibs this is what our medical professionals are using because it's easier than going to Dynamed or Uptodate.

Wtf C&RL? Caving to publishing "diverse viewpoints" thinly masked and badly argued as cognitive freedom - they don't even use 'intellectual' since their standpoint is clearly NOT based on best evidence... or any. 1/

The fact that they are trying so hard to defund libraries, science and education means they know how powerful we are.

It doesn't make the reality of our times better, but remember that you are a badass who billionaires and politicians fear.

Well, here it is.
Trump and Musk are turning #NIH into a garbage rightwing thinktank, just as we said.

They’re forcing down junk science on us with your tax dollars. This is a deep shame for America and for scientists everywhere.

NEW: After cancelling nearly all projects on trans health, the Trump admin has now directed the NIH to study the negative consequences of transitioning.

This will create “a distorted research ecosystem where only politically favorable findings are permitted to exist”, researcher Harry Barbee says.

+ I suggested our regional conference theme should start with "Dam it" since it's taking place in Las Vegas.
