It can be so difficult to stay soft during hard times, but that’s an important part of our humanity. It doesn’t require donating to an internet stranger, there are a lot of other small ways we can be kind and generous, but this internet stranger is an easy opportunity to practice, too.
Ok, y'all. Come over for a sidebar.

I know you're overwhelmed. Me too. Lots of emotional labor. Shit is heavy.

But hear me out for a second. I know a way to feel lighter.

Do you have $1.50 you can spare to help a young man go to school and support his family?

I'm at a meeting at my public library. It is a community garden orientation, and plots are very cheap. Volunteer hours are used for maintenance and growing food for soup kitchens and the community. The org is supported by a local non profit.

This is one of many things public libraries do. Fund them

Instead of waiting for it to come to manifest, it's possible to build the world you wish existed on a more local level. Mutual aid and radical generosity feel good and spread. What is your favorite act of kindness, mutual aid, or generosity? How does it make you feel?

…wait a minute…
As predicted, women in New Hampshire had a hard time voting yesterday because of the new proof of citizenship law:

“It doesn’t have my married name on it,” she said. Town voting officials then sent her away a second time, to get her marriage certificate.

www.nhpr.org/nh-news/2025...
NH’s new ID requirements send some would-be voters home to grab passports, birth certificates
The law requires all new voters to show proof of their U.S. citizenship. For some, that meant making multiple trips to and from the polls before finally casting a ballot on Tuesday.

Looking forward to this! 😁
Unless I discover a showstopping problem, I’ll be releasing something tomorrow.

It’s nothing huge, but it’s arguably the most whimsical thing I’ve ever made. 😄

LEAVE YOUR PUBLIC COMMENT, IT CAN BE ANONYMOUS
Public comment is now open for passport gender marker changes.

You can go here to go to each of the three proposed passport rules, and submit comment.

My suggestion: be unique, argue for trans-inclusive policies, against the constitutionality of the changes, etc.

Friday was my last day working at 18F. It was a team of extraordinary people, but a few things happened that made me realize I had to leave.

Everything happens so much these days, so I thought I’d write down for myself what happened, and how I made my decision:

Washington State stands up against Trump. Listen to our Governor tell Trump we will not allow him to use financial threats to make us abandon DEI, reproductive rights, transgender rights or to allow him to illegally remove immigrant workers. Other states should follow this.

I’m hard at work on my next course 😄 It’ll cover whimsical animations and should be released (in Early Access) hopefully by the end of the year. I’m launching its landing page in a week or so.
