Roofman was fun and lovely and had a great poster… so what went wrong?
I think this is exactly right--an appealing, well-made middle-of-the-road movie with two likable and recognizable stars.
The one fall film released so far that feels like it could have been a bigger hit in another time was Roofman.

Yesterday Ukraine blew up the Novorossiysk oil refinery, which is still burning furiously. Today Russia has been forced to suspend all exports - 2.2 million barrels a day.

That sound you now hear is the Russian economy burning.

There's a lot we have not visualized in a useful way.

One of the big ones is the SHIFT in govt employment from "people who cure cancer" and "people who make sure your Social Security comes on time" and "people who care for veterans" to "people who kidnap your neighbors."
