I know it’s too much to expect them to know their history, but if the American Revolution had a motto, it definitely would not have been “immigrants go home.”

It would have been “get your fucking soldiers out of our cities.”
America... boy, I dunno.

National Guard soldiers called into service for President Trump's law enforcement surge in D.C. have been assigned to spread mulch at federal monuments.

Normally the Park Service does that, but the administration laid off the workers.

American Studies course on superheroes as American mythology. I reference this course often when talking to students about the joy of doing electives outside your major.

I invariably get, "Ooh anthro that was my favorite class/cool professor" from people I meet. I tend to think soms of it is our outré material, being willing to talk "taboo" subjects in a cross-cultural context.

Ironically MY favorite class was probably Geology 101...

I've spent much of my career studying the legal institution known as "the posse comitatus" as well as "The Posse Comitatus Act." Here's a quick thread. Cites at the end.

Posse comitatus is Latin for "power of the county," or temporarily deputized people obligated to assist law enforcers.

Forbes: The Qataris have been trying to get rid of that ostentatious luxury jet for five years, but no one would buy it. It costs too much to fly, costs more to maintain, and needs too big a landing strip. They had another one they unloaded on Turkey.

As we all think about how we’ll respond to this—in op-eds, advocacy, statements—please remember there’s some really good research about how we can communicate to most effectively build support for thoughtful, inclusive history. Some links ⬇️
Lots of predictably terrible stuff in here, but this order is prime example why historians and history institutions defending their interpretation as “The Truth” is a dead end.
