Konstantin Butenko compares four methods for mapping structural network activations in deep brain stimulation—two simple, two complex; some deterministic, some probabilistic—into @lead-dbs.org for direct use in the Fiber Filtering Explorer. See the methods paper below 👇👇
How should we best model recruitment of axons by deep brain stimulation?
Various concepts have been introduced and Konstantin Butenko just introduced a few more in a new publication at Brain Communications:

Massive, Herculanean work by @laurenahart.bsky.social and Garance Meyer to compile and integrate findings from DBS for epilepsy (20 targets!) including meta-analytical evidence for optimal stimulation sites for the two main targets (ANT & CM). Preprint out now 👇👇
🧠 ⚡️ Preprint alert ⚡️ 🧠

I️n the most comprehensive review of DBS in epilepsy, with 124 studies, 1,210 patients, and 20 anatomical targets we map where stimulation works best and why.

Is generalized epilepsy a seizure of the whole brain or a specific brain network?

In our new paper out now in @naturecomms.bsky.social, we investigate this by combining brain abnormalities and DBS with the human connectome.

Paper: nature.com/articles/s41...

A 🧵 below:
A generalized epilepsy network derived from brain abnormalities and deep brain stimulation - Nature Communications
Ji et al. identify an idiopathic generalised epilepsy network that links heterogeneously distributed brain abnormalities to a common brain network and deep brain stimulation sites which reduce general...

Thanks @fof.se for highlighting our research! 🙌 Using 7T MRI, Tobias Navarro-Schroeder (@kavlintnu.bsky.social) & I study #TransientGlobalAmnesia as a model for reversible #hippocampal inactivation & #memoryloss across disorders. #Transdiagnostic approach is 🔑 to study circuit-symptom relationships!

Science is littered with serendipitous findings. Now, a study has put a figure on just how often chance findings happen.

How often do unexpected scientific discoveries occur? More often that you might think
A study assessed 1.2 million biomedical publications and measured the ‘unexpectedness’ of their findings.
