Great introduction to one of my favorite study organisms, and to promote our recent study into how their unusual genetics affects patterns of molecular evolution.
Re-upping this thread on PGE in mealybugs because the results are finally published in Molecular Ecology:

It's finally out! This paper took quite a while but I'm so excited to share now! For anyone who studies sex chromosomes, take note: we found a rare "slower X"! (dN/dS_X < dN/dS_Autos) 👀

Faster adaptation but slower divergence of X chromosomes under paternal genome elimination - Nature Communications
X chromosomes evolve faster than autosomes, but confounding factors make this a difficult phenomenon to study. Utilising the unusual sex determination system of Sciaridae flies, this study finds a slo...

Anyone know if there is research on how post-Christmas grant deadlines disadvantage scientists with caring responsibilities? Or just mental health in general, due to not being able to switch off during this period? Yes I am reaching peak burnout and so done juggling!
