This is DEFCON 1 priority, y'all. Call your senators, reps, call your friends and tell them to call their senators and reps about this. Call your grandma and tell her to call her senators and reps about this.

What we have here will be *gone* if these bills pass.
Congress is attempting to fast track KOSA and more than a dozen bills that would restrict internet access, censor speech and increase surveillance under the guise of protecting children.

Committee hearings begin tomorrow.
Lawmakers to consider 19 bills for childproofing the internet
KOSA is back, along with more than a dozen other bills that will erode free speech and privacy in the name of protecting kids.

“Can games tell stories as well as movies or books?” Is just a fucking dumb question because it’s not really a question of if there’s potential for storytelling in games but if we’re finding ways to effectively use the medium to take advantage of that potential

"You need to watch bad movies" is often taken as creating a wider scale in your mind, but it's more ethereal

Bad games make you see basic failings in functionality and coalescence. Through that you can start to see how many games make similar mistakes, but smooth it over with general competence

All of these end of the year wrapped stuff is really starting to feel like an extension of media “consumption” becoming a pointless competition

Thankfully I already had these settings turned off

Most likely for a good reason
Guys, do not use the Discord Checkpoint thing (Discord's attempt at Spotify Wrapped).

It requires enabling them access to scrape your data, and has an alarming amount of private data being used for it.

Make sure you have these disabled.

I shouldn't have to write a lengthy critique of the use of genAI while discussing a series that, historically, has celebrated art & music. Do not buy Let It Die: Inferno, or realistically, any game that uses generative AI. Our review: www.rpgsite.net/review/19037...

Hey remember when people would go to jail or fined for so much as downloading music and videos illegally and now there's just a whole industry based on mass-plagiarism of the arts and somehow none of the people who create or rely on the plagiarism-machines spend even a single day in prison?
Another quote from Coca-Cola's Head of Generative-AI:

“The haters on the Internet are the loudest. A lot of the people complaining last year were from the creative industry who were just afraid"

LRT if I ever make something and people label it as “respectable queer art” i swear to god I will fucking launch myself into the sun

It drives me nuts when people label my work as the "respectable" kind of queer art just because it's basically PG-13.

Bitch don't pull that nonsense, we stand up for porn in this house. Always defend the weird, ugly, uncomfortable, and cringe, because if we don't push boundaries we don't exist.
The fascists are counting on you finding erotica and porn too distasteful to support. Because they always start here. And even if they ended here, sexuality and erotism are integral components of queer expression. You can't support queer creators without supporting 'nsfw' content.

I wonder if the people running Steam, Humble, etc. realize the irony of them banning HORSES is the big reason that it is getting attention it has now because it sure put it on my radar xD

It's not about if Horses is good or if you like it, it's about the world we're in where a few companies have control over who gets to make money and which artists get to continue working.

Stores can stock whatever they want, but if you don't understand the broader picture you shouldn't speak.

Just thinking about how I’m glad that the 1966 animated special is the only adaptation of The Grinch ever made. We as a culture collectively agreed it was perfect and no other adaptations were ever made

I looked at my youtube recap thing and made the decision to not show it or reveal what's in it publicly because no one needs to see it

Indie animation and game development is here to stay because it MUST be. Otherwise soon enough there won’t exist a sector of the industry willing to tell or support the stories already starting to be snuffed out.
Not great that a foreign state that regularly executes queer folks is now going to own the major AAA publisher that most consistently supported queer stories and characters.
Saudi Fund [PIF] will own almost all of EA (93.4%) after buyout according to filing

How about we worry less, as a society, about whether individuals might be cheating to get a disability accommodation or some help buying food, and more about whether extremely wealthy people and corporations are paying their fair share of taxes?

The only immediate and TANGIBLE way of pushing back against this is to *cancel subscriptions*.

If they have 90 shows and push out 10 AI dubs, they can start marketing “we have over 100+ shows!”

It’s not about quality, but the scope of offering. *Your* subscription money is used in part to fund it.
Welp, a second AI dub on Amazon has apparently been found, and it's a show that already had a perfectly normal (albeit non-union) dub: No Game No Life.

it’s morally right to jump ship from Amazon as much as you can
Hey just so you know Amazon decided to give us an AI ENGLISH DUB of Banana Fish instead of actually hiring real voice actors
it is fucking hot garbage

Here it is! New on the Ponett Gazette: I've returned to Hazbin Hotel for a followup review! Season 2 is a marked improvement in many ways, but is it enough to outweigh the show's continued issues with its tone, themes, and politics? (Plus: I also discuss Helluva Boss) ponett.dog/blog/hazbin-...
Is redemption possible for Hazbin Hotel? Season 2 (and Helluva Boss) review
To put it mildly, I did not like the first season of Hazbin Hotel. Almost two years ago now I wrote a scathing 13,000 word review on the many issues I had with it—not just the surface level stuff peop...
