My biggest ask for PD this year is that everything we do makes me a better teacher or a better member of our school community. #langchat #edchat #edusky

A question for #psycholinguistics or #neurolinguistics folks: in therapy, EMDR or bilateral stimulation helps to process past events/trauma by, I think, activating both brain hemispheres. Sometimes it's done through auditory means. A beat moves from the left ear to the right ear. #langsky

We need to make sure language is accessible to all students in our class, that it is engaging enough for most, that we offer a variety of ways for Ss to demonstrate learning, and make sure that we regularly audit our materials for bias #LangChat
Universal Design for Learning and Comprehension-Based Teaching
I used to think teaching with comprehensible input (CI) was inherently equitable. I'd argue, "it's the only thing we KNOW students need to acquire language". I still think that's true. And while CI is still the first thing I consider when planning for student language acquisition, I have reflected and learned a lot about what it means to be equitable in a world language classroom.

#LangChat Essential questions, IMO, help students see why what we learn is important. I try to write them in such a way that Ss can leave class and *know* what they think about a particular topic.

So now I'm thinking about what will a S's answer to an EQ tell ME about the student.

Speaking of moving from topic to something more, I think I’ve been viewing essential questions like developing a research question. #langchat

#langchat what are your best tips for creating Essential Questions for a unit?

I feel like there are more people on Bsky I wanna follow and interact with, but tbh the app has a lot of moving parts and it’s overwhelming. How do yall have the app configured to make it easier to interact? And who’s got great Ed and lang Ed feeds they can share?

#LangChat I love being able to streamline lesson/unit planning. Here is a framework I've been developing, mostly I just needed to get the ideas on paper and out of my brain. Hope something can be useful here :)
A Unit Planning Framework for a Content-Based CI Unit
Through a lot of trial, error, and student feedback, I think I have found the right combination of activities and pacing for my level 4 class. Hopefully, something that worked for me will work for you, as well. If you have a hard time wrapping your head around what a comprehension-based curriculum looks like in upper levels like I did, I highly suggest taking a look at both…

One of the things I tried this year that I’m absolutely keeping next year is having students create infographics to demonstrate comprehension #langchat

#LangChat I wanted to reflect on my EOY book report project. Have you done anything similar? How was your experience?
The name of the book about which this book report is about is…
Anyone a fan of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown? I played Linus in a couple of Charlie Brown stage shows, and directed YaGMCB once too! The Book Report scene is still one of my favorite scenes. We just finished our Semester Finals, which this year (and last year) took the form of an End of Year Self-Selected Book Project.

Brain dump!
In spn1, our final unit is just storytelling (not asking), and a bunch of reading. Stories are short, but have "richer" vocab. It's not as interactive as I'd like, BUT I am seeing some vocab growth. I've used AI to help me ensure that any new vocab is recycled #LangChat

Canva released new features so I had to go ahead and check them out! A lot of cool potential here, and now that they've got Sheets... I may be moving away from google workspace completely. Now if only they made it easier to share lesson plans/activities outside of Canva... #LangChat #TEachers #Canva

Instead of calling it “circling,” I now tell Ss I’m asking a “transparent question”. I tell them "We already know the answer to Transparent Qs, but I want to make sure we hear these new words over and over". #Langchat

Today in Spanish 4, we played bingo while listening to a podcast.

I selected a bunch of short sentences, put them in L1, and as we listened to the pod to “cover” a square, Ss had to copy the L2 that they heard. It was fun, or at the very least Ss seemed to actually listen haha #Langchat
