Writing fiction is not my strong suite — so instead of writing a novel, my goal for November will be to simply to write every day of the month on one of my personal, unfinished writing projects. There are many. …

When a president decides to disregard the will of the American people, you’re right, that’s the mark of authoritarian rule. The White House has notified Congress that it plans to cancel $4.9 billion in foreign aid funding that lawmakers had already approved, doing so without their consent.

This year, I took a leap of faith and entered my first writing contest—Mormon Lit Blitz. While I didn't place, the real victory was simply putting my work out there. Here are my three submissions: a personal essay about finding comfort after losing my husband, and two poems about eternity.

I’m advocating for the release of Utah violinist, John Shin, who was detained by ICE. A benefit concert on Labor Day in Salt Lake City is happening. If you’re local and are in support of this cause, come on out! #bachforjohn #releaseJohnShin #immigrantsstrengthen #trueimmigrationreformnow

It’s only a matter of time — until it happens to someone you personally know. ICE detained and took into custody my daughter-in-law & son’s friend, talented Utah violinist, John Shin. I’m beyond infuriated and will continue to raise my voice in protest. gofund.me/7a8665c2

Good advice - most days.
Don't be afraid to be you on the page. The barest you, the most naked, exposed, and self-deprecating. Write like your parents will never read it. That's the person readers are dying to get to know. Deep down in those depths is where you will find that elusive "voice" for your stories.

Perfect timing for this sort of review.

The Declaration of Independence complaints:
• Exclusionary immigration policies
• Barriers to world trade
• Taxes without our consent (Tariffs)
• Corrupt the rule of law
• Impair due process
• Using the military improperly
• Threaten the judiciary

<more>
Check out the Declaration’s list of grievances
