This is a brilliant thread on Star Wars.
I'm procrastinating, Stancil is getting dragged over it, and the Rewatchables podcast guys finally covered it, so I guess it's time for what I hope is my last thread ever on Star Wars. Let's do this. 🧵

Mike is truly one of the most important voices in the fight against far-right conspiracy mania. He’s also a lovely individual who wrote one of my favorite books of the past few years.

You should buy it and support Mike’s Patreon as well: bookshop.org/p/books/jewi...

“Must you be the only lonely man-beast in town?”

I’ve said it before, but the magic of “Batman Returns” is that it manages to be both a great “Batman” movie and a great Tim Burton movie.

It’s a portrait of a man who wishes, deep down, that he were a freak.

Rewatching “Twin Peaks: The Return”, and it feels like a show about the collapse of any sense of connection or continuity in contemporary American life.

This is true even in the show’s structure: “Twin Peaks” is no longer an ensemble soap opera, but a collection of disconnected vignettes.

Writers: yes, you are still a "real" writer if you
- have never published anything
- have no readers
- didn't write anything this month
- didn't write anything this year
- can't articulate words anymore
- can only float and mournfully wail
- were murdered ten years ago on this very spot

We want Bluesky to be a great home for journalists, publishers, and creators. Unlike other platforms, we don't de-promote your links. Post all the links you want — Bluesky is a lobby to the open web.
Traffic from Bluesky's @bsky.app to @theguardian.com is already 2x that of Threads

In its first week on the platform & with 300k followers, Bluesky traffic from @theguardian.com posts is already higher than it was from TwX in any week in 2024, where the account had 10.8m followers, but🧵

The more I use Bluesky, the more I realize the ways Threads fumbled the ball.

Threads’ biggest mistake: not grasping that conversation-centric social media is contemporaneous.

Everyone needs to see things at the same time so they can *engage with each other at the same time*.

imagining getting crushed by this and kind of into it
If we'd invented it in America, we'd call it the "full-auto tactical assault bookshelf", but because it was designed by 16th-century Italian engineer Agostino Ramelli, it's just called a 'bookwheel'.

It permits reading of many books by a person from a single location.
