Found myself seeing the non-professional performance of Les Miserables down in Bristol last night - I say non-pro because the quality of singing & acting was seriously impressive. A great achievement, and a process that should be replicated I think, in terms of the quality and standard it produces!

Currently getting to grips with the rich harmonic language of York Bowen in his Horn sonata. What a harmonic genius! It’s the kind of music you keep discovering a new accidental you’ve not spotted until that moment…

It’s been so interesting & exciting to work on a really contemporary choral work with a completely unique sound & voice. Esmail is such an amazing composer, you must come and hear for yourself! Tabla & Sitar in the mix of orchestration too!
Join us for a thrilling double-header: 29 March, St George’s Hall, Bradford. Experience unity & harmony through Reena Esmail's 'This Love Between Us’ blending Indian & European classical styles

Nothing says the Christmas break like spending some time on the laborious process of uniformly cataloguing your 56 disc Bach Cantatas collection to fit with Apple's Music (formerly iTunes) app - since I bought the collection probably about 10 years ago, I'm probably halfway through...

As we’re deep into Messiah season now, I’m starting a petition to get ‘Lift Up Ye Heads’ axed from the standard programming - which is naff. It should be replaced with ‘Their Sound is Gone Out’ which is a cracking bit of choral writing.

Every single year I am floored by how amazing Quincy Jones’ interpretation of Handel’s Messiah is. It’s incredible! It shows his classical music influences, his time studying with Boulanger & Messiaen - I’d love someone to put it on next year as an alternative! open.spotify.com/album/4Loq4n...

Really looking forward to only my 2nd performance of Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle EVER - with my 1st having been the weekend before! I can’t believe after almost 15 years working with choirs, I’ve never had chance to perform it until now…and now they’re like buses! And it’s so fun to play!!

Ooof - track of the day alert…check out this incredible piano solo by Deschanel Gordon to kick this wonderful arrangement off, and a wonderful 4 min instrumental before the song actually kicks in. Wonderful Friday listening stuff…👏👏

I'd say follow me if you like being constantly told how Bach and Rameau's music absolutely bangs

Right then! I've moved over from the platform-formerly-known-as-Twitter to Bluesky - and I'm not particularly bothered if no-one else follows (but the assumption is that if more do then more will follow) ...it's rather nice to be in a quieter place...a hidden-gem that no one else has found yet...
