👀❗️Some Russian prisoners refuse to be exchanged,— Deputy Justice Minister, Pikalov

🗣️ "First of all, this concerns mercenaries who are not citizens of Russia. They said that they have three meals a day here, paid work, medical support. But at home there was none of that."

From 2015: Why being an early bird doesn’t make you superior.
No, Mornings Don’t Make You Moral
We are different people at different hours of the day, but an early bird isn’t superior to a night owl.

It's worth reflecting today on what it took to end legal chattel slavery in the US.

And it's worth remembering that the work stoppages of enslaved workers in the south crippled the Confederacy and were the largest and most effective labor action in US history.

A number of provisions have been thrown out of the Big Beautiful Bill because of violations of the Byrd rule.
This includes pretty much all the Banking Committee provisions, including the defunding of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Office of Financial Research.
All these are gone:

“The Constitution is whatever five people say it is” is one of those sayings that has a purpose (explaining how things are enforced and therefore function) but can also be used to obfuscate, because no, it is not whatever five people say it is. They may get their way, but they can still be wrong.

Here is a thing I believe about the future: I believe things are going to get worse, because Trump’s “policies” are absolute bullshit.

Here is another thing I believe: compassion and empathy are going to be more important than ever.

This whole thread is good, but seriously, this.
5. Don't follow those big "de-activist" accounts that claim to be fighting Trump but just post a bunch of tired slogans and memes without ever telling you to call your reps or support your local mutual aid groups or libraries or do anything but follow and share. Those accounts are wasting your time.

I am looking at the elements of the murder + terrorism offenses in New York and you know, (a) I really think it’s fucking rich that SOMEONE has finally figured out you can call it “terrorism” when a white guy does a shooting, and (b) if you look at the exact elements, it’s a fucking reach.

Ah, fun times! This shows all the things that Court watchers know and love.

(A) The most important thing is the reputation of the judiciary. Criticism is not allowed.

(B) Notwithstanding that, the punishment for violating the canons of ethics is barely a slap on the wrist.

Kinda feel like anyone who manages to get a good tariff deal from Donald Trump should be investigated for FCPA violations (Foreign Corrupt Practices Act) (and you know, when we have a chance with like a real enforcement team) because I'm sus that they've been on the up and up the whole time.
Tim Apple knows how to play the game, but also, this is a tell about how tariffs are going to work.

So once again, a discussion flits around Romancelandia that presupposes only duets, most of the discussions mention heroines and heroes or “the man” and “the woman” or the like.

It’s so easy to slip back into language that kicks queer and poly people to the curb, and honestly? I just stop reading.

I often sell things made from other designers’ work. I pay a fee EVERY month for EVERY designer to let me do that, because it’s the right thing to do and because that’s how our copyright system WORKS. I genuinely do not understand how we’ve let a company that is *entirely* based on IP theft stand!!!

The fact that we are four years into the pandemic and it never even came up in this campaign like…COVID really truly broke some brains and our collective unwillingness to acknowledge it by trying to force pre-COVID normalcy is just splintering us further.
I genuinely believe a hell of a lot of people have PTSD from 2020 that is going entirely unaddressed.

Yes, mass COVID infections undoubtedly caused cognitive changes for some, but I suspect for many this was their first experience with a long term traumatic situation they could not escape or avoid

Fun fact: there’s never been a Democratic director of the FBI in its entire history.
