Who needs Barnes & Noble? The City that Reads is stocked with local bookstores
Who needs Barnes & Noble? The City that Reads is stocked with local bookstores
Barnes & Noble’s Charles Village closure leaves the city without a big-box book retailer, but about two dozen independent bookstores remain.

In New York, ICE detained a busload of farmworkers that were actively involved in a union drive.

In Washington state, ICE dragged a farmworkers’ rights activist and leader out of his car to detain him.

Be warned: attacking unions is a hallmark of fascism.

THE PENTAGON BUDGET JUST HIT A TRILLION DOLLARS.

Not a single pundit from either political party said “how are we going to pay for it?!”

Don’t dare tell us we cannot ALL have healthcare, housing, and education.

This shouldn’t be controversial but I’m against a police state abducting and deporting men they claim are bad dudes not because I can find a few I don’t know much about who I can claim are actually good dudes. I don’t care what kind of dude. My problem is with police state abductions.

It’s time for Congress to reign in the Mad King. These tariffs haven’t even hit for real and the world is off the rails.

Politically, it’s helpful to Dems, but this is why I’m not a good politician b/c I care too deeply about the harm on all people, even on those that hate my very existence.

One of the defining feelings in American life, for decades now, is elites doing plainly criminal shit and nothing at all happening as a result. It is deranging in a way that virtually nothing else is. Media fixates on perceived street lawlessness but shit like this matters much more in my opinion.

Talking about Trump talking about a “third term” isn’t talking about the future. Trump is starting the attack right now. And the attack is part of how he consolidates power right now. This isn’t “a conversation for later.” Once again, we’re watching a coup attempt, his second, in slow motion.

This country is so f*ckin crooked.
it's early, so I'm handicapped until the coffee hits, but lemme get this straight- Elmo buys Twitter, loads Grok onto it, splits it off, says it's worth $80m & borrows against it to buy Twitter from himself at a loss, gets $33m & a tax write off?

I don’t know who needs to hear this but fascism often begins with the slow erosion of civil liberties and the rise of authoritarianism under the guise of ‘security measures’.

This is a very real concern.
“If we enforce the law they might keep breaking it” is a hell of an argument for a fed judge to make.
Wow. Judge Howell is worried that if she orders DOGE to leave the USIP building it could turn into an “armed standoff” over unwillingness to vacate, and points out law enforcement has shown willingness to help DOGE. Asks if we’ll need foreign mediators to come in.

Generally speaking I dont support shutdowns. The Dems are the only party that believes in governance.

But....it is past time for DRAMATIC shit stirring.

The Dems need new leadership.
The terrible CR Budget bill — written by right-wing House Republicans with no input from anybody but themselves — was passed tonight with the support of 10 Democrats.

An absolute failure of Democratic leadership. NOBODY in the Senate should have voted for this dangerous bill.

Accurate
one of the things i truly believe is that a significant portion of this country is in the grip of a death cult
"The vaccination has stuff we don't trust," said the father of the 6-year-old girl who died from measles at the end of last month. Tom Bartlett visited with a family confronting an unthinkable tragedy:
