Wellington Council pushes pause on Golden Mile project
An independent review would test whether the existing project remains viable and aligned with its original objectives.

We've got a Labour Mayor who wants to stop long overdue Golden Mile improvements and Labour MPs who want to ram motorways through residential suburbs.

Labour hates Wellington City and it shows.

I did NOT vote to review the Golden Mile today. Cities across Aotearoa & the world are revitalising their centres, attracting people back into them. We'll now put NZTA funding at risk, & costs only ever increase. We need to ask how we do it? Not say let's review it!

Wellington’s controversial Golden Mile paused for review

trying to kill the golden mile and advocating for road tunnels then cries it's about fair share?? of terrible roading projects??? why tf do you want a fair share of those?
Our city has not received our fair share in recent years across all modes. This is a central government proposal related to SH1. I'm committed to better public transport and one of the ways I'll be advocating for that is through getting a Regional Deal for Wellington.

Another 6 month review will not deliver the Golden Mile, just like the reviews before it. This city is stuck in managed decline and we desperately need to build our way out of it

I did not vote for a pause or review to the Golden Mile. Progress has already been too slow and I do not wish to contribute to that. I sincerely hope that the project will survive this review.

The absolute gall of the man. There are a number of genuinely good people who missed out on being a councillor (myself included), whereas this absolute buffon throws it in our faces with comments like this. Unbelievable.

This is unforgiveable incompetence: NZ has spent $671m to get no ferries, rather than $551m to get new ferries that would be arriving within months to replace clapped-out ferries. This sort of mismanagement should bring down a government; amazingly, it's not even the worst example of their failings

In Welly. You need to account for the bus driver's Tokyo Drift capability as they might show up at your stop 3-4 minutes earlier than what it showes on the Metlink app.

Reminder that an independent review found Diane Calvert had breached Wellington City Council's Code of Conduct more than once.

Even if you don't agree with council decisions, signing up to a Code of Conduct should mean you follow it. It's about Trust.
