Rising political violence is bad, even when it happens to someone I do not like, whose views I find reprehensible.

The road of endless escalation leads nowhere good for society.

W.E.B. Du Bois on Robert E. Lee:

“Either he knew what slavery meant when he helped maim and murder thousands in its defense, or he did not. If he did not he was a fool. If he did, Robert Lee was a traitor and a rebel–not indeed to his country, but to humanity and humanity’s God.”

So obviously I disagree - there were, I think, 11 US Army colonels from Virginia in 1861 and only one of them betrayed his oath to the United States - but I wonder if Matt Walsh would be willing to extend his logic to someone in LA who shoots ICE agents to 'stand beside' his community in battle?

Yeah, this mentality did not work out great for the Romans: it led to a lot of law violating, but not much country saving.

Indeed, it let to quite a lot of country destroying, in fact.
