It was 40 years ago today that my life took a turn for the better. I saw the Jesus & Mary Chain in Plymouth and nothing was quite the same again. Thanks to Jeff Barrett for the flyer and for putting the gig on in the first place.

Anna Magnani‘s birthday today? Perfect excuse to share how highly Elsa Merlini thought of her! The most obvious connection to find on them is the 1936 film 30 Secondi D‘Amore in which they played sisters-in-law. One of Magnani‘s early works & though silly, an entertaining watch. 1/3

An #Ozu favourite for me. ‘Ohayo’ (Good Morning) pokes fun at Japan’s then burgeoning consumerism and its impact on family life through the story of two wee rascals who go on a silent strike, refusing to say anything, including ‘Ohayo’, until their father buys a TV set.
