In these godawful times (personally, nationally, globally), I am finding solace in tennis, gay pirates, my weird cat and expensive ice cream (thanks the lord it (the ice cream, that is) only comes in smallish tubs)).

This is so often overlooked. The psychological (and financial) damage done by the THREAT of reforms/cuts is devastating.
“The benefits reforms haven’t been implemented yet”.

No they’re haven’t, but they’re already causing huge harm.
Disabled people are already spending less on what they need.
They’re already struggling psychologically.
It’s already making their conditions worse.

I’m not much of a romantic really (single crone with cat here). But I can’t help thinking about Mariam now that Amadou is gone. All those years working and living and loving together.

(This thought brought to you by my Spotify playlist bringing me “Je pense à toi”.)

Home from hospital day today, all being well. I’ve had excellent, diligent care, almost all from overseas staff. Hospitals are not great places to be an autistic in-patient, & I can’t wait to get back to my quiet routine at home (not to mention the cat)….

Hey you know how he was Robert yesterday morning and now he's Leo?

It's that easy to respect someone's chosen name.

My god, Reunion. I mean, it had me at Matthew Gurney signing sorry *in blood* on the series “poster”. It tackles abuse, isolation, injustice, the ripple effect of trauma. Deaf writer & so many Deaf cast members. And at the centre of it Gurney, who is just a phenomenal actor. More of this please BBC.

Going to Autscape (@autscape.org) in person can’t really be replicated, but online Autscape is lovely in its own right - this 1st evening, a range of engaging talks, Kate Fox performing wonderful poems to a TARDIS backdrop, Sparklies in the Dark. And all from my own sofa, accompanied by the cat.

The solidarity between queer people and miners during the Miners Strike shows how bollocks the idea is that trans rights are somehow a distraction or anathema to 'traditional' working class issues.
In 1994 the Pet Shop Boys were invited to perform 'Go West' at the Brit Awards.

They agreed and brought with them 3 separate choirs of miners. Some of those miners had marched with the gay and lesbian members of LGSM in the 1980s. It is one of the great, near-lost music moments

Queer Roma has been available as open access for 2 yrs now.
My book provides rich evidence of the heterogeneity of Roma. The lived experiences of queer Roma pose a fundamental challenge to one-dimensional, negative misrepresentations of Roma as homophobic & antithetical to European/Western modernity
