Today is the anniversary of the British evacuating New York City after the end of the Revolutionary War. Here's how I learned about it: the piece that introduced me to the terrific work of @bencarp.bsky.social
Evacuation Day: Marking the End of the Revolutionary War
We know how to honor the image of soldiers charging forward, but we often forget to cheer the backs of troops as they peaceably depart.

Excellent thread. Stay strong, stand firm, be joyful, and keep in mind how fundamentally rowdy we Americans are.

We're not so easy to subdue. #RockOnPipples
My mistake has been trying to explain what "fascism" is to people who don't care what it is.

So I'm going to try something else. Let's do this as a practical thought exercise.

If America *were* fascist *today* - what would you have to do differently in your daily life? /1

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

Unreal performance. Just ... unreal.
Shohei Ohtani pitched 6 scoreless innings allowing only 2 hits and struck out 10 batters and hit 3 home runs as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Milwaukee Brewers 5-1 to complete the sweep and advance to the World Series.
