I think Trump’s increasingly extreme trade policies will probably help the GOP electorally by juicing base turnout — the only way they could make this go better for themselves would be by banning abortion and privatizing Medicare.

I'm broadly confident that "stove touching" with regards to public opinion isn't real.

Inflation might still be, service cuts probably will.

But anything that's like "Trump is attacking this popular thing" will inevitably translate into "thirty to forty percent of Americans now hate this thing."

Imagine an alternate timeline where the discourse (heading into the 2024 election) was influence by right-wing non-voters angry about Trump's fake disavowal of Project 2025, declaring that both parties were the same and voting was pointless.

Europe will do nothing, it'll just be split between:

Right: "The Cold War's over, guys. Putin's our friend, he hates LGBT as much as we do."

Centre: "We just have to wait four years for the USA to come back to its senses."

Left: "Military spending is icky and wrong, NATO is imperialism."
“I’m here today to directly and unambiguously express that stark strategic realities prevent the United States from being the primary guarantor of security in Europe.”

Everything changed today.

At a time when a member of the Commonwealth Realm is being isolated and attacked it would be nice to have a UK government with, like, an iota of ambition in foreign affairs (or anything else, for that matter).

It will be interesting to see if all those lectures we received over the years about the importance of having a "written" constitution actually ever had any merit.

It is a 100% certainty that this will actually involve spending more money, as these things generally do (hello, Sir Humphrey) and, against the backdrop of an ageing population, will not make even a marginal difference to our overall economic decline.

Why is the "emergency" tariff (25%) the same as the "normal" tariff (25%), and why are they both higher than the tariff (10%) he wants to level against the country he's ranting about for ten years (China)?

It is remarked upon a lot but still not often enough that pretty much everything in the world revolves around the USA's electoral cycle.

It's interesting to see a cross-party consensus emerging on climate change, specifically: insurance companies should bankrupt themselves on pain of death, so that we can pretend it's not happening.
I know a solution for these insurance companies.
