Hello! After an accidental year-long hiatus I am here now (and abandoning twitter, obv)! As a quick introduction, I'm a freelance business journalist, writing mostly about finance (personal and institutional), tech and mining, and also whatever else strikes my fancy. Who else should I be following?

Media call-out: I'm looking to chat with Canadians who love travelling and consider it a financial priority (i.e.: you're saving up for your next trip, you've got a long list of dream places to visit, etc) for a Globe story. If that's you, please reach out! I'm at kannerolfe at gmail dot com.

Some backseat editing. If you are going to mention Trump’s tariffs are supposedly over fentanyl and illegal immigration coming from Canada, you need to mention that’s bullshit and not supported by the data.

Does anyone know of a good recording/transcription service (that's affordable for a freelancer)? Otter is such fucking garbage these days, the more gen AI features it shoves down users' throats the less it's able to actually record a conversation without garbling the audio. I'm losing my mind!

I spent the last couple of days speaking to Canadians who'd moved to the U.S. to build their creator careers about what the U.S.'s ban on TikTok would mean for them, and how they were preparing to weather the loss of their largest followings. My story for @thelogic.co: thelogic.co/news/tiktok-...
They moved to the U.S. for TikTok fame and fortune. Now they’re worried - The Logic
Some Canadians bet everything on making it big on TikTok in the U.S. With the app facing a ban, they’re wondering how they’ll earn a living.
