Jim Henson & Frank Oz performed many double acts together, but here's a two-hander w/ Kermit & Grover that’s straight out of vaudeville. The timing puts Swiss clockwork to shame,& their interplay is incredibly kinetic, expertly delivering a lesson w/in the comedy. Jim’s timing at the end? Priceless.

not to beat this dead horse but doing what you love often takes a lot of upfront capital investment and a safety net to insulate you from risk

so yeah it's great advice if you've already lucked out, but it also frames any job frustrations as a skill issue, so forgive me this one caremad post

"do what you like" is a bit like hearing "did you try winning the lottery"

the thing that makes people like their job is stuff like having agency and feeling that the work is meaningful, being trusted as a peer, etc

and then way down the bottom of the list is things like "the actual work"
I agree with @caseynewton.bsky.social who writes the Platformer newsletter. "The best productivity hack in the world is simply liking your job."

For 30 years as a college teacher I told my students: If you can't wait to get to work because you're so into what you are doing then you did it right.

Tom Lehrer made all of his music 100% public domain so if seeing people sad about his death makes you want to check them out… it’s free. he wanted you to share them.

I grew up on Tom Lehrer's songs. We had the LPs "An Evening Wasted With Tom Lehrer" and "That Was the Year That Was".

Looking at video of Padilla being shoved into arrest, two things strike me. First, I'm moved by all the recordings being made of the event--an entire grove of arms lifting phone cameras to call us all to witness. Let's make this silhouette our banner, the flag of the resistance. 1/2

Second thing striking me as I watch Padilla's arrest is that we all need to up our passive resistance game. Ever seen a cat on a leash? That's what I'm talkin about. (Yes, there's more going on than these 2 things. They're what I choose to focus on now. I'm in this for the duration. You too?) 2/2

It would absolutely be a mistake to use either having had bottom surgery or possessing a GRC to decide which trans people are going to have full human rights and civil liberties.

I entreat those members of the community who think this a good idea to withdraw their advocacy.

I've just said out loud, "Brain? Hello brain. I'd appreciate it if you could remember what we were doing. Oh yes, that's it." and then proceeded to finally take my daily inhaler puffs. I think that just about sums it up!
Do you talk to yourself out loud?
If yes, are you ND (or suspect you might be)?

Do you refer to yourself in the third person or first? (I find I switch between the two, depending on the situation.)

Anyone want to live in North London? T'other half and I, our house-mate, and the cats we're staying together for the sake of. Looking at Finchley, N6, N4, Crouch End, Muswell Hill, Stroud Green, prefer to avoid outright Turnpike Lane.

Might get more space for our money with 4 bodies instead of 3.
Relevant to the house search, I have found a few bigger places where to afford them we need a 4th person. Does anyone know someone who might be interested joining us renting in the next couple months? Maybe even slightly later for them if we cover rent overlap if they can't move when we do?
Landlord is selling, we can't afford to buy the place, we've been given notice. We intended to move the shared household: 3 humans, 3 cats. Problem - most councils have decided to require a small HMO licence to rent to 3 unrelated people, but most landlords have decided it's not worth getting one.

Once upon a time, I'd be posting to Goth Housing on LiveJournal to ask this question. In fact, that's what I did to find my original flatmates at this home I am now having to leave.

The ostensible reason for small HMO licence is to protect tenants from bad landlords, but as far as I can see, the main result is that it prevents people from choosing to deal with the cost of living in London by sharing in a small household.
