For @us.theguardian.com, I wrote about how Silicon Valley’s right-wing politics go back to the dotcom mania of the 1990s — and how they’re far more central to the tech industry than we’ve previously thought

‘Headed for technofascism’: the rightwing roots of Silicon Valley
The industry’s liberal reputation is misleading. Its reactionary tendencies – celebrating wealth, power and traditional masculinity – have been clear since the dotcom mania of the 1990s

Did I just spend $230 on Instacart to rush-deliver a slew of miniature dollhouse things to the hospital for my adorable patient? Yup.

I’m just so proud of New York City for accommodating such entropy. I love our little snowglobe of chaos.

SooooooOooo, when does the pediatric remimazolam party start? Haven’t seen anybody use it yet. Ye olde #Ansky explorers (or folks not in America), how do you like it? Anecdotes (my favorite type of evidence) welcome.

As nice as it is to see selfless #BillsMafia shovel the stadium, I’m nervous that some old toad of a fan is going to have a cardiac event and it won’t be so cute anymore.

Pegulas: invest in some dang snowblower technology. That said, go Bills. And don’t let the older folks in your life shovel.
Snow shoveling, cold temperatures combine for perfect storm of heart health hazards
DALLAS, Jan. 11, 2024 — Weather forecasters may call it ‘white fluffy stuff,’ however, snow can be a bigger danger than many people may realize. According to the American Heart Association, celebratin...

Ran the best kind of errand yesterday (the holiday kind, where you’re hunting down cheese, chocolate, and wine…). My husband and I wandered into a tiny cheese shop. Eavesdropped. Apparently the cheesemonger is also jazz critic for NPR and the Wall Street Journal.

God, I love New York City.

It is 7:20 EST and I’ve found myself reading a “zooarcheology” feed (which is a field I did not know existed at 7:15 EST). Thanks @bsky.app, for plopping my dumb ass down in the midst of an open and active scientific community again. I missed thisssssSsss

Afternoon dog walk took us past the optometrist where my husband was sitting in the lobby, waiting for an eye exam. Finn scratched at the glass to get his dad’s attention and scared the receptionist, but all in all another cute ass NY moment.

Turns out, it wasn’t Twitter/X we loved, it was each other.

I can’t wait to see that platform collapse.

If GenZ wants to know what early Twitter felt like…. It’s this. People talking about what they ate for lunch without an iota of shame. Yes, it is adorable. Social media used to be adorable.
