It's in every reporter's self interest to try to expand public records from the mayor, but it sure is naive. A mayor is never going to open all their conversations to the public. The alternative isn't transparency, it's inefficient phone calls

Mayor Lurie doesn't want you to read his text messages
London Breed was slammed for it last year. Now, in a “depressingly similar” scenario, the new mayor appears to be shrouding access to public records.

SF restaurant surcharge (the Wiener tax) is meant to deceive patrons. No other businesses in the city add arbitrary fees to their prices. Insane that no politicians support this effort and citizens are having to resort to a ballot prop.

‘Keep restaurants honest’: Critics aim to outlaw surcharges in SF

When I travel to other cities, I'm reminded that @sfmta.bsky.social's bike infrastructure is at least 5-10 years outdated. Has been the case the 15 years I've lived in SF. MTA staff regularly see best practices and then come up with a laundry list of reasons they won't work in SF.

Our mayor is riding the 38 (seemingly without staff, but I'd imagine with his SFPD detail) on his first full day in office. A good sign for the future of public transit in SF.

Five years ago, the Mission had four Walgreens. We'll soon be down to only one. I think Walgreens are so crucial to car-free residents. It's a shame our city has watched so many close.

The Marina will never change unless all the young renters there start organizing and voting. I'm not holding my breath.

The last meaningful street safety project in the neighborhood was 9 years ago and only after a driver ran over two middle schoolers.

S.F. abandons plan to cut free parking in Cow Hollow, Marina after ‘significant’ pushback
The SFMTA proposal to implement metered parking on numerous residential streets drew concern from neighbors and merchants, Supervisor Stephen Sherrill said.

SF desperately needs standardized city-wide parking reform. The current residential parking map is a random mishmash of zones. Should be a standard allowance to park 0.25 miles from your home address across the city. Get rid of arbitrary zones and increase coverage.

Status of biking in the Mission, while @sfmta.bsky.social's bike plan is years behind schedule and community meetings have been cancelled without reason.

Definitely seems like a tornado in the Mission
That is what woke us up, a tornado went through Mission tonight. Two trees ripped up from roots. Our car is totaled. What we heard was the scariest thing in my life.

I love exploring the stairs of San Francisco. Was so pleased to see new houses going in on these stairs. None of these houses has street access.

SFMTA is proposing a 7-lump speed cushion. They've managed to design a completely ineffective speed reduction tool (speed cushions), yet continue to install them throughout the city.

Reminder when SF gets big rainstorms, we dump our raw sewage in the bay and ocean. SF is suing the EPA to continue this practice, instead of getting serious about requiring permeable surfaces and rain gardens.
