I’ve never seen Forrest Gump
Seen clips of Seinfeld, never watched it.
Inspired by a post I just saw in which someone admitted they hadn’t seen a single episode of Friends nor the film Love Actually… what cultural hole do you have that’s a bit weird for your generation?

I’ll go first: I haven’t seen Dirty Dancing.

If you’re lucky enough to get the Mayor’s newsletter, then yesterday you got to see him TAKE CREDIT FOR A BILL HE VETOED LESS THAN A YEAR AGO.

Flanked by some people who aren’t on City Council, Mayor Frey made a big deal about passing carbon fees - something he tried to stop.

At the end we get to see and feel some of the generational trauma and exhaustion as she is still trying to protect people with her words.

Centuries of fighting just to live…these scars are deep in our collective soul.

The MSNBC commentator saying that most political violence has historically come from the left just once again showed how we suffer from failing to learn history. Lynching, pogroms, race riots, the political violence that ended Reconstruction, and against the Civil Rights Movement. Come on.

Only 40 days have passed since Democratic lawmaker Melissa Hortman and her husband were tragically killed by an unhinged Trump supporter, yet this story has largely faded from national awareness. We must not allow that to happen.

I’d like to understand why Mayor Frey did not bother showing up for South Minneapolis today. Not even a campaign staffer to explain his absence.

The Southside deserves investment and time. We deserve a Mayor who shows up and cares about us.
Mayor Frey a no show at tonight's candidate forum.

It is inexcusable to overturn the DFL endorsement from Omar Fateh.

A small group, a majority living outside Minneapolis, met privately to overturn the will of Minneapolis delegates who volunteered, organized, and participated in a months-long DFL process.

Not news that fear and trauma has taken over many Los Angeles communities—and others across the country— but last night I was at a support group for survivors and family members of ICE raids and the devastation. If watching raid videos is too much for you (I get it), I will share some stories.

It is illegal in Minnesota to discriminate against trans people. Period, full stop. That includes in bathrooms. Treating people’s ability to use public spaces as a “social issue” continues to bandy about trans people’s existence as a political issue and it is gross. And dangerous.

the thing everyone is going to have to accept is that the post-trump period, whenever it comes, will not and cannot be a project of national unity, it must be a project of partisan project of renewal, in the same way that reconstruction and the new deal were partisan projects of renewal.

Really proud of this! I wrote a proposal for the @rooseveltinstitute.org about how to design a universal system for child care, after school, and summer.

In my latest newsletter, I talk about what it would look like, how it would work, and the potential it holds.

the thing about jacob is that he is bad at his job. the city is significantly less pleasant than it could be specifically because he is a bad leader who does not ensure that basic services work & improvements are noticeable & worthwhile to residents. and this with the strong mayor amendment.
There are an absolute fuckton of non-leftists in this fight. I know a ton of normie Minneapolitans who are sick and fucking tired of Frey and all his people
We literally don't need to frame it as "leftist," Minneapolis. He just won. By popular vote. The People are just saying they deserve better than the status quo.

Can we stop pretending DSA is a separate political party and not just a national membership organization that endorses candidates like basically all membership organizations? Conservative DFLers who want to ban DSA-endorsed candidates, but not Sierra Club-endorsed candidates are bad faith actors.
Will the Minneapolis DFL endorse a democratic socialist for mayor? It could happen Saturday.
The city’s DFL convention will pit democratic socialist state Sen. Omar Fateh against Mayor Jacob Frey.

I do think that a major hurdle we've had to face over and over in this country is the tendency of white progressives to search deeply for explanations as to *why* someone like Andreeson is behaving like a vicious gutter racist, rather than simply recognizing him as one and reacting accordingly.
