For history’s sake it’s important to remember this didn’t come out of nowhere. It’s been 13 years since Occupy Wall Street and class disparity and affordable care has gotten much worse, while a president, about to have a 2nd term, is only interested in helping the wealthy. People are in pain.

I’m a smart person. And I am continually humbled by the steps I need to learn/take to get healthcare.

Do I need precertification for this surgery? Was anyone going to tell me I did? The doctor will give me a cost estimate but the anesthesia is SEPARATE so contact the hospital etc etc.

This is the 2nd lowest approval rating for a presidential transition since CNN started asking the question after Bill Clinton won. (The only transition that was less popular was Trump’s first.)

Now ask yourself what kind of echo chamber you need live in to look at those numbers and offer this take.

This is HUGE!

They already offer so many of their politically important texts for reduced prices, and with this, there really is no excuse to not at least pick up some ebooks.

I'll link some ideas too, for stuff not on the gift guide!

My view is that extrajudicial vigilante killings are not good, but the incuriosity of well-compensated columnists about why millions of people’s horrific, life-changing experiences with a sprawling, cruel, bankruptcy-inducing health care system might lead them to feel differently makes me really sad

To really never need to think about healthcare in America, you need to be making roughly $1 million constant-dollars/year in passive income, post taxes and after living expenses + buying private health insurance.

Per. Person.

That’s not a typo. And it’s probably an underestimate. Seriously.

just monumental news: union majority at the most important chokepoint over amazon's fast shipping out west.

courageous marches on the boss against extreme heat and wildfire smoke helped amazon workers learn their power, and bring more into the fight.
Workers at Amazon's largest air hub on the West Coast have announced that they have majority support for a union.

Inland Empire Amazon Workers United have declared that a majority of the workers in this crucial facility for the corporate giant are ready to join the Teamsters.

Canadian MP Charlie Angus just sounded off on Trump.

"So yes, they are our neighbors, but we've stood up to them. We're in a different situation with Trump, a convicted predator, who's seriously undermining the democratic process in the US. And he thinks he can just push us around. He insults us."

Aside from the cheap virtue signaling (“Look how I, the objective journalist, am totally not falling for the liberal echo chamber and instead hear what regular folks say!”): What is the actual argument supposed to be? A majority approves of how Trump is handling the transition and so… Trump is good?

The tech industry is given the benefit of the doubt by both the business and tech media. This kind of thing is disgraceful, anti-consumer, and should have the founder and the company tarred and feathered in the media. Instead it'll be forgotten by Friday
In any other industry this rate of failure and this kind of utter ignorance and incompetence would get you fired, but we're supposed to believe techbros are somehow better than all of us at deciding what society needs

Yeah, I don’t know if I care at all about what dude was posting / what he was reading — since the more revealing consequence of his actions has been people across classes and political affiliation coming out with stories about how awful healthcare in this country is for them.
somehow this process that happens at the end of every episode like this--sifting through the social media presence looking for stuff we'd call "problematic" if a normal friend posted--is opening a wide gyre in my brain this time lol. what are we doing
