Just received a donation request text from Senator Slotkin

Seriously, how dare you use your position of authority from last night’s Dem response as an opportunity for fundraising. Kindly, F off.
Signed, a disgruntled Michigander who knows Michigan deserves more from its Democrat senators.

My son is home sick, and I’m really feeling the Amazon withdrawals. A lot of my OCD and anxiety is directly associated with germs, and a major coping mechanism is feeling “prepared”. In the past, when he’d get sick, I’d be buying medicines, cleaning supplies, etc for quick delivery.

Not anymore.

For the last two weeks or so, a friend and I have been texting each other two hours from the day.

It is SO easy for me to get bogged down with negativity. It’s been a small and simple task to share a joy with a friend daily and receive someone else’s joy, whether large or small.

I’m really sick of the state of the USA right now. Disgusted is a better word. I don’t feel like I can do much… but I can continue to show my students that I care and support them.

I’ve traced my lineage back to Louis Hebert (1600s Canada), and I’m wondering if I can come “home” to Canada now? Please? Sincerely, a Michigander.

The US Department of Education press releases look like fucking The Onion articles.
“Book ban hoax”
“So called”
Fuck off w/this shit.

Dog Man movie with my son today!

One of our theaters has two regular seats in the back row (in addition to the reserved handicap). We always choose this (more room from other rows, rarely anyone sitting next to or in front of, no one possibly behind).

I will continue to call my students by their true (preferred) names. I will continue to use my students’ true pronouns. It’s human decency.
The government has no right to decide what name or nickname your child goes by in class.

The government has no right to pick out what clothes your child wears to school.

This is not just an attack on trans children. It's an attack on personal choice.

With Sweeping Executive Orders, Trump Tests Local Control of Schools
The orders seek to encourage “patriotic education” and restrict discussions about racism and gender by threatening to withdraw federal funding. But schools are often resistant to change.

If you need some joy, might I recommend a box of yellow cake mix, a can of pie filling of your choosing, one egg, and half a cup of better - mix it all together and pop it in the oven for as long as the box says, and you have a yummy, fruity cake.
Not pretty, but is tasty! Works w/gluten free too

Am I overwhelmed? Or am I just expecting WAY too much of myself? (The answer is… both.)

Michigan friends - please call Senator Elissa Slotkin’s DC # at 202-224-4822 to share your voice on the cabinet picks. Someone is actively answering the phone.

My husband just casually walked out of the basement carrying a door out to the garage. Yes, a door. No, I don’t know what he’s doing. And I’d really rather not know. 😅

When you go to the USA Department of Education website, the “learn about 504” section no longer exists.

I’m trying to figure out what has been causing me some new stomach issues (other than increased stress). I’m wondering if the culprit is gluten, so I’m giving that a rest for awhile. Enter: chickpea pasta (plus turkey bacon, peas, Parmesan)

And just generally, it’s fine to advise to “boycott XYZ” BUT it’s also worth mentioning that it will take more time to look elsewhere for products. Give yourself that time in advance when you have the capacity.
I’ve seen quite a few “what can I do?” style posts this week.
One little tip:
If you haven’t already, unsubscribe from any Amazon “subscribe & save” products AND make a plan for where you’ll get those items instead so you won’t be tempted to go back to Amazon later.

This administration’s goal is to overwhelm us and break us early so it’s harder to fight back long term. We can’t allow that to happen. Take care of yourself first so you can continue to sustainably advocate for change.
