Please note, both of these companies offer Linux, which is, at the time of this post, still free.
Since Red Hat was acquired by IBM 5 years ago, they've DOUBLED their revenue. And last year, OpenShift alone made 1.3$ billion with a B!!

Meanwhile, Canonical gives Ubuntu away for free and clocked $250 million TOTAL last year.

Sell that shit for money!
My friends, the answer is: you want them *in* your community. You want them tied to your software. It'll be easier to sell them later. RHEL clones have more market share then RHEL. Yet RHEL makes all the dollars. This is segmentation. It's good, not bad.

So many great folks when through Packet/Equinix Metal. It was my first principal-level role.

Dev rel is inherently emotionally expensive because it requires a lot of vulnerability
A lot of putting yourself out there
A lot of talking to people
A lot of being rejected
And its hard, and so many people burn out of it
And that's something that I don't think folks understand when they go into it
