My first mentee gave a paper presentation at ARVO today and nailed it! I was almost as nervous as I would be giving it. What a successful day! #ARVO2024

These crowded rooms are getting really frustrating. I guess I’m here just to network. Hit me up if you’re at #ARVO2024.

Wait, is there an All Poster session at #ARVO2024?

At the #ARVO2024 keynote and you would think that the speaker view would be shown across the screens in the room and not the screen behind the speaker.

Starting off #ARVO2024 a little annoyed that I couldn’t get into the first session I wanted to attend. Why are all the sessions in small rooms so popular? There wasn’t even any standing room. This makes me miss the virtual world.

Where would one find outstanding graduate students in vision science and ophthalmology who are defending next year (2024) and interested in ophthalmic imaging in clinical trials? Programs, schools, or labs I should look? 👇🏼

Publishing or perishing is still a thing outside academia especially as a scientist.

First post on Bluesky for Webvision!

I need to get back on a microscope. I miss it. In the meantime, have a beautiful picture of photoreceptor outer segments (purple), cone inner segments (green), and bipolar cell bodies (also green). Wow, these cones look good!

In industry, you can be both an impactful scientist and a mentor if you want. I wanted both and I’m happy to say because of that, I had a very fulfilling summer.

Add how to be a reference to a former person I’ve managed to the list of things I didn’t learn during my years of training.

Imagine if you won the lottery this week. The payout would be about $550 million. What would you do with it?

The collapse of twitter has made it much harder to publicize Skype a Scientist.

Very open to any ideas on how to get the word out to teachers about our program.

It has to be either free or very low-cost (twitter collapsing has also made fundraising harder lolololol).

I really underestimated how off-putting it would be to see the dumb X logo on my phone's home screen. I think he has finally convinced me to remove the app entirely.

Lunch views from work: watching planes land and take off from SFO while enjoying the breeze and mid-60°F temperature outside.

New times but wondering if this is the place… I’ve flown over here hoping to find some clear air and blue skies. I’m sure I’ll see a retina or two in the sky.
