It took a long time to find a home for this short story. Thanks @kaleidotrope.bsky.social 😱

On Monday morning I went for a nature walk, and ran down to the stream to capture the glorious dappled light on this weathered wood stump, rooted in spite of everything around it.

Writers know that not everything we write ever sees the light of day. But, I had this one poem I really wanted to place, so I kept searching for the right home for it (read: rejections! waiting! sadness! etc.!).

Happy to learn that one of my favorite books, Yōko Ogawa’s “The Memory Police “, is being adapted into a film starring Lily Gladstone, and a script written by Charlie Kaufman. If you haven’t…Read the book first!

Yesterday, I shared that at this point in my publishing journey I’ve racked up *hundreds* of rejections. Within a few hours I received an *acceptance* from 🥁 Zoetic Press!👏

“The Obsolete Model,” a heartfelt work of speculative fiction, will appear in NonBinary Review’s upcoming ‘Old Friends’ issue.

Thinking back to when I first read Stephen King’s “On Writing,” he spoke of all the rejection letters he hung from a nail on his wall to motivate himself. While today’s correspondence is electronic, the truth remains: rejection means you’re laboring to share your work with the world.

I love a good anthology, since it has the power to expose the reader to work they might never have considered choosing on their own.

Here are a few of my favorite poems from ‘The Best American Poetry 2023,’ with series editor David Lehman and guest edited by Elaine Equi.

Realistic Nanowrimo advice for the best of us
Some folks are really motivated by that daily word count. But I’ve seen way too many writers either get discouraged that first week (I’m already behind, why bother?) or burn themselves out. Right now, I know I’m not ready to crank out 50k in a month, so I’m giving myself permission not to 🙃
