I’ve seen clips of Fran Lebowitz speaking eloquently about her experiences in those horrific early days of the AIDS epidemic in NYC, but somehow never read this gut punch of a piece until today. Damn.

A haunted house for people with cPTSD, but it's just a room full of people saying "Everything happens for a reason."

Anyway, the tl;dr to take away from all this is a thing I have been repeating for ages, which is that extremism symbols function on a plausible-deniability basis. People who use them 100% rely on normal people going "I had no idea, so maybe he didn't either."

Folks, you can't report the United States to its manager. There's no superhero coming to save us.

We don't need one giant act of heroism. We need millions of small acts of solidarity. Help one person in your community for nothing in return. Then, do it again. And again.

That's the revolution.

You know what? I was raised by peaceniks and wasn’t even allowed to play with toy guns and Thich Nhat Hanh is my go-to theorist on empathy so my reaction to a lot of this is different from some of my friends and I don’t think these articles telling people how to feel are doing anything useful

This entire thread ☹️
Every American has to decide what they are going to do now, because your government is out to kill you. Perhaps in January, this might have seemed like hyperbole, but in late August, it sounds like just another Thursday morning in the United States. 9/

If you can read a story of this level of raw pain and come out the other side not supporting trans rights with your whole being, *you* are the one that has something wrong with you.

So much manufactured outrage against queer folk in the culture wars, boils down to cis/het folk blithely strolling into queer spaces and queer conversations and completely misunderstanding them.

Let me explain 1/

Hey folks, I have a HUGE request from the Trevor Project and would appreciate help getting the word out.

Trevor is now recruiting for it's 2025 National Youth Survey. They need people 13-24, LGBTQ+, in the United States to take it.

This research is critical to LGBTQ+ rights.

Take it here:

Q&A from a talk I gave last week.

Q: "What do you think is the biggest threat in cybersecurity right now? Is it post-quantum computing? Is it AI?"

A: Fascism. It's fascism.

I can no longer tell if I'm holding up surprisingly well right now because I did all of my grieving for the future back in 2024 or if I have just reached a state of emergency dissociation so extreme that I will not be feeling my feelings until 2026.

We need to use the right words. Don’t just repeat what the regime calls it. Think, rename it to be more accurate.
Kidnapping.

Capturing a person against their will without due process is called kidnapping.

Transporting them to another country without due process is called human trafficking.

A squalid extrajudicial prison for people found guilty of no crime is called a concentration camp.
stop calling things deportation just because they call it deportation.

-You cannot legally deport people without due process.

-You cannot legally deport citizens.

-They are defining down deportation to break the law.

A shortstack of pancakes (mushrooms) nestled into the mossy feet of a shaggy pine tree on this bright, windy, definitely spring day

Any guesses about the kind of mushroom? We've been joking about their visual similarities to pancakes, stroopwafels, injera, shelves...
