Every time you turn on the TV there is some admin honk saying some variation of, "Things are bad and about to get worse, but that is good, actually."
Kevin Hassett: "I think there could be a little bit of an almost quiet time in the labor market, because firms are finding that AI is making their workers so productive that they don't necessarily have to hire the new kids out of college and so on."

Out of curiosity I just logged on to see how Fox News is taking last night's election results and their top story is... Hillary Clinton's reaction?

"Stake-driving," as in, "driving a stake through the heart of democracy."
By proceeding with the demolition of the White House East Wing before seeking approval from federal agencies for a new ballroom, President Donald Trump forced the issue. It's a strategy known as "stake-driving."
How Trump Demolished the White House East Wing
By putting the demolition of the East Wing before the necessary approvals for his ballroom, President Donald Trump borrowed a tactic known as “stake-driving” to force an outcome.

To be honest, I only thought they were *metaphorically* ripping the copper out of the walls out of the US government.
Scoop: Trump has started demolishing the White House's East Wing facade to build his ballroom. The president had claimed construction of the $250 million building wouldn’t ‘interfere’ with the existing White House structure. /W @ddiamond.bsky.social wapo.st/4hqBNiU

Obviously this is advocating an absurd gamble on remaining in good health, but to the extent that under 50s are lower risk how is it a political winner for the governor of *Florida* to advocate taking them out of the risk pool and significantly increasing the premiums for everyone who remains?
DeSantis said “Most people, particularly under 50, what they really need is a catastrophic plan that’s affordable, where then they can pay whatever they’re doing out of a health savings account.”

Ron DeSantis says people under 50 don’t have much use for comprehensive health insurance
'Catastrophic care' should be enough for them.

The new season of Undercover Boss sucks.
Question: is it the best use of the Chair of the Joint Chiefs time to retrain as a pilot so he can do a photo-op with Hegseth?

I try not to view everything through the lens of consumerist transactionalism, but we are literally paying her salary so that she can say this.

He is literally continuing construction on a 90k sq ft ballroom while the government is shut down and being stripped for parts. We are in honest-to-God 'let them eat cake' territory here.
Once again, I’m wondering why Democrats aren’t running with a straightforward message of “despotism is un-American and unaffordable” right now and all the way into the midterms.

Real "let them eat cake" energy except they are talking about the enlisted members of the military that they are hoping will kill their fellow citizens for the admin.
I know these guys are all dumber than a sack of hammers, but it is fascinating to see the military decide “logistics are gay” in real time

If the only guardrails are just gentlemen's agreements, they only last as long as the gentlemen do.
As I watch Pete Hegseth rant and rave in front of our military leaders it occurs to me: the US, my own country, can no longer be trusted with nuclear weapons.
Does that sound extreme?
Donald Trump has the power, right now, to end human civilization. How does that sound?

Yeah, anyone who has served in the military can tell you that forcibly separating service members who have shaving waivers means you are just trying to get rid of the black people.
"The Department must remain vigilant in maintaining the grooming standards which underpin the warrior ethos.”

Huh?

"About 60% of Black men are affected by [pseudofolliculitis barbae], according to the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology."

Oh, 🤮.

Under the new guidelines, troops granted a medical waiver must receive treatment and see the medical condition resolved within a year or face separation.

if only one individual will ever use it, in what way is it "received by the us government"?
Breaking News: President Trump plans to accept a luxury Boeing 747 from Qatar that he will use as Air Force One and will keep using after he leaves office. The plan — involving possibly the biggest foreign gift ever received by the U.S. government — raises substantial ethical issues.

It'll never be investigated. Congrats to them. 🤷‍♂️

Hey everyone I found the antisemites
SCOOP: The Antisemitism Awareness Act — up for vote in Senate committee tomorrow — now has a religious liberty clause to protect ‘Jews killed Jesus’ statements by Christian conservatives.

New added language in the bill clarifies First Amendment protections.

The Antisemitism Awareness Act's added language says it would not infringe on religious liberty to protect the claim that Jews killed Jesus.
