About 8 years ago, @siobhanleahy50 and I prepared a Quick Reference Guide for Embedding Formative Assessment. It's now out of print, so the copyright has reverted to us, and we are free to share it with anyone who wants it: bit.ly/EFAQRG (pdf).

If we go to the trouble to create an accommodation for one student who has an IEP, why not just offer it to everyone? It's not harder to give the support to everyone. When baked into our lesson as #UDL, supports can have far-reaching benefits. #LeadInclusion #EduSky #InclusiveEd

I’ve been loving this style of question with my grade 1/2 #numbertalks lately. Curious to try this out with BCHS #albertaed grade10-12 #educators tomorrow! What do you think? What doesn’t belong? Why? #competencybasedassessment #accessibleassessment #assessmentidentity #albertateachers

#ungradingchat A4: in my grade 1/2 class we do a lot of co-creation of success criteria. We cap it at 3 pieces of success criteria & we also do a lot of self-assessment practice. My hope is that teaching them these skills young will influence them when they’re older.

Was JUST chatting about this to a teacher friend today #accessibleassessment #equitablelearning
The more options we give as universal design for learning, the fewer accommodations we need for individual students later. Universal solutions benefit everyone and single out no one. #LeadInclusion #UDL #UDLchat #EduSky #ATchat

Some of my biggest challenges with alternate grading paradigms have occurred within my own district. I’ve been part of district teams that I’ve had to leave because of the vast misunderstanding. It’s hard to be a change agent alone! Grateful to have likeminded community here! #ungradingchat

As a product of a graded system & as a person who was harmed by this system, I agree wholeheartedly with the “do no harm” philosophy. In my practice I want all learners to feel seen & heard in their learning, which means including child honouring/student voice&choice opportunities #UngradingChat
My grading philosophy? Do No Harm. And the best way to minimize the harms of grading is to implement alternative grading models that release the pressure valve and honor the fact that learning is a deeply complex process that unfolds at different rates for different students. #UngradingChat
Here are the questions for this week's slow chat on #UngradingChat
I will drop Monday's question tomorrow morning. #EduSky

Thanks for reviving the #UngradingChat tradition, Starr!

Educators, if you’re interested in going gradeless or exploring alternative assessment approaches, this is the chat for you! 😀

I worked my whole life to “please, perfect, perform” until I learned through my research on educator #assessmentidentity that I was chasing marks&scores in every area of my life because it was all I knew. Now I know better, so I do better. #equitableassessment #canadianeducation #competencybased

Agree @leeannjung.bsky.social 100%. So many classes in my district fit this description & so many folks are missing the mark with #UDL in their respective settings
⏳ If half the class requires tier 2 support, the school doesn't need more tier 2 #intervention strategies or programs. There's a need for more universal design. #LeadInclusion #MTSS #UDLchat #InclusiveEd #EdLeaders #Teachers #UDL #EduSky

👥 Students who have #IEPs are not "special education students." They are simply students. They belong to every educator they have. Receiving a service shouldn't impose an identity. #LeadInclusion #EdLeaders #Teachers #UDL #UDLchat #SpecialEducation #InclusiveEd #MTSS #ATchat #EdChat #EduSky

You know I LOVE a good sports & assessment analogy…after all, high level sport is what started my journey on this assessment path decades ago
Formative assessments are like sports practices. They are important for getting better at a skill. But it's the summative assessments (or the game) that should count for the grade (record). Practice shouldn't be graded. #edchat #langchat

@mssackstein.bsky.social you've piqued my curiosity so here I am, too! I was considering rejoining Twitter as well, but couldn't bring myself to do it. Let's get nerdy here instead!
